I'd personally be more concerned with the lack of security updates more than anything else. Just like somebody who keeps using expolorer 6 on XP, there comes a time to move on.

My iPad 2 cetainly runs the latest version of the iOS slowly but, it does run it, except for features that require newer hardware.
The biggest problem is the that iPad two only has 16 Gig of storage and thus is has problems storing data. As a result it frequently must refresh the screen by downloading data it already downloaded, which, of course, slows things down even more.
So I use the iPad 2 for things like streaming music and sending text messages. it also make a good kitchen time and alarm clock. The battery still holds a good charge and I rarely have to recharge it before the end of the day.

I went with the 256GB 7+ in matte black. Main reason was availability - this was the model with the earliest anticipated ship date. By the time I tried to order 128GB Jet Black, I would've had to wait till November.

Speaking of expected sales and revenue, Apple needs something new. They're never going to see the kind of growth they had with earlier iPhones because:
If that car they're alleged to be working on isn't absolutely ground-breaking, I don't see where Apple has to go in terms of growth
- Everyone who wants (and can afford) one has one
- They build them to last
- The last revolutionary iteration was the 6/6 Plus, which is still a perfectly decent phone
- They have the same issue with Macs and iPads which, in my experience, last for years
- And the watch by itself wasn't enough.

One more generation, or two max, and its a full-fledged phone.
So I'd guess that the next Iphone is their last bug effort on phone. And then its ride gently like they have been doing with Macs for years now...
