Pretty decent wide angle lens though.

In cities and the like: Panasonic Lumix DMC-SZ1 (10x optical P&S, very user friendly)
When traveling for landscapes/wildlife: Panasonic Lumix FZ100 (24x optical bridge camera, very user friendly).
I'm not comfortable enough to use a DSLR but wanted more than a very basic P&S for a couple bigger trips. The Lumix line just works well for me.

My new always-with-me-cam arrived today.
It's the smallest compact cam with 10x zoom:

Let's see how she does it

Thanks to a nice bonus, I ended up getting a Canon 5D/MK III. Battery on charger now, looks like I'll go play this weekend.

The Sony is a bit difficult for me to handle at the moment when i'm used to work with my huge Pentax K10D (including a battery grip). The weight is more than 10 times the Sony
I have to get more familiar. But i wanted to have a very small camera with a better zoom option than others.

For prime dedicated shooters, sure you can. I've shot rangefinders for a while and I usually stuck with the 40mm focal-length. That largely carried over when I purchased an SLR and then a mirrorless camera.
As for travel, I usually carry a phone and whatever micro-four-thirds body I'm feeling at the moment attached with the 20mm lens; which is a GF5 for now.
