Room received: Spectacular Room, 2 Queens

BRG stay: No
SNA requested: No
Comments: When I arrived at the front desk I was greeted by some of the best Starwood Platinum recognition possible. The agent was very polite and, debatably, overly enthusiastic. Despite seeing the SPG app that I had been preassigned to a Spectacular Room, dude-man worked the angle that he was going to **try** to upgrade me. He played on the computer for about 30 secs and confirmed, “I was able to do it, I have upgraded you.” I made sure to play along, because who likes to crush enthusiasm, no matter how unfounded it is? In the end, this resulted in a 2 tier upgrade.

Comments: Put in an SNA, was pre-upgraded without it anyway. Funny since it was going to expire anyway. Also got approved for a 9am-4pm Your24... I think that's one of my fav benefits so far!

You know, the situation could have blown up in your face. They could have insisted that the suite for booking online was not part of the upgrade pool for Plats, and made you PAY for the suite.

This discussion about booking availability correlating or not correlating with upgrade pool availability (if such a pool really exists), has been going on forever.

I wonder if anyone has ever been burned and been made to pay for the booked suite as well?

Anyway, great for you!

You are absolutely right-except she said according to the system they did not have a suite available- I ask- if I can book it- can I get it- she said- yes; hence, I got the suite.

It is amazing- the whole upgrade benefit- I never understand being "upgraded" to the club level- as a platinum member you receive those benefits regardless of the floor and/or being upgraded to a "higher" floor. Really frustrating!

That is cool! I mean, did she say it in a "yeah right, whatever, go ahead" way or was she more like "um, I really don't see an open room I can put you in, maybe you could try booking it" way?

Haha...i sooo agree with you..but im too afraid to post a club room upgrade as a "fail" and then be trashed here in FT. So i neither post them as a fail/success.

Property: Four Points by Sheraton Bangkok, Sukhumvit 15
Date(s): 1 Night in May
Booked: Comfort room
Room received: "Comfort Premium" room
Award stay: Yes, C+P
BRG stay: No
SNA: No
Comments: Checked in at 4pm, they told me none of suites available (saw any types of suite for sale on spg.com). once i got to the room, I asked the plat concierge via online chat that this is true or not. After they called the hotel, suddenly the "Junior suite" just became available. What a surprise!!!

No, I did't move to that suite. Just asked the plat concierge told them (the hotel) not to call me. I will not bother them anymore.

FYI, Comfort Premium room is almost identical to the standard room.

I suppose these two were posted in the wrong thread?

Unrelated to the above post:

Hey, I have an idea to avoid arguing whether an upgrade is a failure or success - how about next year we write about "disappointments" and "successes"? The grey area goes well under the disappointment umbrella.
