Wait to Sign Up for SPG Amex?

Looks like I just missed the boat on the 30k promotion.
Is it best to wait until they do a similar one, especially since I can't get the $15k in 6 months promotion?

Any thoughts?

Met my threshold within the first billing cycle. 30K posted on 7/29 after meeting my threshold. And another 10K "1st purchase open" posted 8/23 which was AFTER my billing cycle. Total of 40K!

+10000 SPG AX 1ST PURCHASE OPEN (AX) (08/23/2010)
+10000 SPG AX DEFAULT (07/29/2010)
+20000 SPG AX NEW MBR SPEND BONUS-CSR (07/29/2010)

Best
This is all I am getting:

Earn +20000 08/25/2010 SPG AX NEW MBR SPEND BONUS-CSR

Earn +10000 07/27/2010 SPG AX 1ST PURCHASE OPEN (AX)

Earn +680 07/27/2010 SPG AX BASE SPEND - OPEN

Hmm, I'm not sure if that's true either. Neither me nor my fiancee were previous SPG cardholders (personal or business; however, both of us had other Amex cards), but only she got the 10k bonus, while I didn't - so far. I checked, and both of our personal card's first statement's closed before that of the business', so there's no difference there either (in terms of the business closing before the personal, and therefore being 'new'). We even applied for them in the same order (first my personal, then my business a few mins later, and then her's in the same order the following day). She hasn't even hit the threshold yet, while I have (opposite of what one might think). My first purchase was before her's as well (7/20 vs 8/7).

Only thing that her account 'completed' before mine was that the statement closed on 8/11 while mine closed on 8/12. Since someone else mentioned that date as well, I'm guessing that that's when they discovered the extra 10k that was posting, and removed the duplicate promo.

EDIT: Just thought of something else - I have had my SPG account since 2006, while her's was just opened for the Amex cards (so technically, for SPG, she's a 'new' customer). It's probably not the explanation since it's on SPGs side and not Amex's, but I figured I'd put it out there in case other people have similar data.

quick question

I have both SPG cards, awaiting 60K spg points...question is, how do I know my SPG number? I wasn't a member before...Am I automatically enrolled? On the Amex site, it just shows blank values for the SPG points, whereas I have miles posting to my AMEX MR account..Will these magically appear once the miles from the first month post?

Cheers

I emailed them the following:

Hello. I wanted to verify that I'm signed up for the spend 1k and receive 30k starpoints promo on both my personal and business starwood amex. I have spent 1k on both cards but have yet to receive any bonus points. My parents applied and were approved for the same offer and their points posted the day after their respective statements were cut. I would greatly appreciate any help that you can provide.

Thank you,

XXXXX XXXXX

and received the following response:

Hello XXXXX XXXXX,

Please be assured that your personal and business accounts are signed up for 30,000 bonus points promotion.

These bonus points will be awarded within 8-12 weeks of meeting the $1,000 spending on your accounts. We do not have a way to expedite the bonus points as they are automatically issued by the system.

We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

Sincerely,
XXXX XXXXXX Email Servicing Team American Express Interactive Services

I was approved on 7/7 and received my 30K Starwood points on 8/17. They didn't show on my first statement, but appeared in my account two weeks later.

But I just can't find the promotion ID (the website is expired). ANybody here can help me or tell me what to do to claim that 20K????

I'm glad to join the family and I'd appreciate if someone can help me!!

I received my 30,000 point bonus but when I called to cancel my card they said that if I cancelled that I would lose my SPG points??!!

Did I get a misleading CSR or is this always the case with Starwood cards and their reward points?

Thanks!

Why cancel so fast? The annual fee is a year out. It is usually best to keep it until just before the annual fee.

Not sure about AMEX, but Chase has been known to pull bonus miles when a card is cancelled before 6 months. In some cases, this has driven accounts negative.
