Anybody with the personal card received a total of 40k points?

We should re-name this thread the "official" YMMV thread.

Some folks getting 30000, some 40000, some nothing and waiting.
Some getting miles within days and before they've completed their 1000 purchase, some still waiting after their 2nd statement.

And everything in between..............

I'm in the still waiting camp. I completed my 1000 spend the last day before my statement (last week) and only my purchase miles of 1024 have posted.
I also got 2 additional cards, did the required spends and no points have posted for those either.

What intrigues me the most is that I have no idea if I will receive 40000 or 30000. I really want to get to 40000 because of the 5000 bonus when transferring in 20000 increments. So, I am putting a lot of purchases on my card under the assumption that I will receive 30000 and will have to spend to get to 40000. It will be funny if I receive 40000 as a bonus and putting extra purchases on the card is unnecessary.

Oh well, not knowing keeps things inttriguing.........

My wife's acct. had a similar oddity when she hit the 15K bonus for $15K spend earlier this year. It added 15K points for the bonus, another 15K points, and then a deduction that made the extra 15K points equal to the monthly spend. Bizarre, but we got the correct number of points.

was the 40k bonus on the business card? i have a theory about how some people are getting 40k that i'm tempted to try out, although it'll cost me a little bit of money to do it. but since the payoff is 10k *points, it's probably worth it.

Since "OPEN" signifies the Amex business card, it's a safe bet.

maybe this is obvious, but i think the 10k bonus was for the people who used the biz card to buy things from the AmEx OPEN autodiscounts program. We could test this out pretty easily by buying something at bn.com (although you have to use a special portal).

I can't find it advertised, but it seems to make the most sense to me. I got the biz card and only got 30k, but I definitely haven't bought from anything in the OPEN program (fedex, airtran, etc)

Hyatt (and various affiliated Marriotts) is on the list of OPEN autodiscounts as well, so a ton of FTers would pick up that 10k bonus without thinking about it, if i'm right.

Well, I'll poke a hole in that theory. I got the biz card, I got 40K points, and I definitely haven't bought anything from any OPEN merchant.

I also got the 40k for the Business card and have never bought anything from the Open marketplace or any merchant who gives a discount to Open members... I've only bought coins.
