Any predictions on when the schedule will open past June 5, 2015?

Perhaps about January 10?

Actually, the next schedule extension is on December 17, 2014.

Isn't this a rather odd date? Historically, extensions usually occur on Monday mornings. 12/17 is a Wednesday.

This is a time of year when schedules go off the norm.

What happens when a new schedule is released? Are there good values to be had (i.e. the cheapest fare buckets) in the first few hours after release, or am I dreaming? Thanks!

In my experience, you are dreaming. I usually find pricing high when the schedule is first released. One benefit used to be that awards were available for RR1. Not so much anymore.

Typically fares are not very good when the new schedule is released.

I've heard for international they are best right as schedule is released. But for the others sales time is best.

Any idea about what time (day/night) the schedule is released usually?

Thanks!

I have booked 2 flights so far on SW the day they went on sale.

I flew my first SW R/T 11/28 - 12/3 and at no time was the fare lower than what I booked it at the day ( 8/7/2014) that it went on sale.

I have another R/T 4/11 - 4/19 that I booked the day it went on sale ( 9/15/2014) for 23,051 points and today that same itinerary would be over 900 points more.

Both trips were MSP/TPA

The only exception I have seen in Thanksgiving late Wednesday and early Monday. There are usually a few seats in the lowest fare bucket on Day 1 and those never come back. Other dates and times will have lower fares, but if you need those particular dates and times you should book them at the opening.

Normal dates hit minimum fare 6 to 12 weeks ahead of travel.
