In my experience, you are dreaming. I usually find pricing high when the schedule is first released. One benefit used to be that awards were available for RR1. Not so much anymore.

I flew my first SW R/T 11/28 - 12/3 and at no time was the fare lower than what I booked it at the day ( 8/7/2014) that it went on sale.
I have another R/T 4/11 - 4/19 that I booked the day it went on sale ( 9/15/2014) for 23,051 points and today that same itinerary would be over 900 points more.
Both trips were MSP/TPA

Normal dates hit minimum fare 6 to 12 weeks ahead of travel.
