The schedule open date was adjusted several weeks back. It hasn't been expected to open on Monday for awhile now.

International (adding at least one new destination), assuring new aircraft are added and IMO possibly adjusting flights from DAL given the new non-stops reducing previous connecting to/from other gateways. i.e. DAL-HOU is one that seems extremely over served post Wright.

Perhaps internally, but as recently as October 17, 2014, the official message on the website noted Oct. 27, 2014 for the next extension.

From once the new schedule is a month away I check it every Monday. On Monday 10/13 the new schedule was set to come out 10/27.

The date changed somewhere between 10/13 and 10/21

It changed the day I posted it did. I had checked it the day before and it was still Monday.

Do times generally change much when schedules are extended? A WN-newbie here, so wondering on a leisure route like ROC-MCO...will those two flights generally stay around the same general time? Wanting to reserve a house for vacation, but flight times will dictate what day we depart. A <5 month release (for the earliest dates in the new schedule) seems awfully short, but maybe this is normal.

Extended again to 10 NOV

We are currently accepting air reservations through April 6, 2015. On November 10, 2014, we will open our schedule for sale through June 5, 2015. This date is subject to change! Please check back frequently.

So they've pushed back the extension to November 10... Wonder why?

IMO it is integration issues and making sure they have 30+ min between flights to get a handle on the late flights. They have a lot of decision on integration that is impacting their decisions (ie. plane availability and crews etc). Remember SWA has not been very transparent in the merger process.

I could have merged two lumps of coal into a diamond in less time than this merger. And you are right, its been anything but transparent.

Except the schedule is now open through April 6, 3 months after the last Airtran flight. Seems like integration will have been done by then.

How is it possible to park all 717s on December 29th and operate the schedule they were flying December 28th?

I've been wondering about that for months. There will however only be 30ish 717s on Dec 28, maybe fewer. I don't know how long the conversion takes but they are delivering three to Delta each month. They are scheduled to deliver 36 in 2015.

I know they are also acquiring some additional 737s but don't know how many Some are new from Boeing. They got 10 from WestJet last year and have purchased others, but I don't know how many or from where.

I also don't know that the schedule will be the same.
