The extension to April 6 is now live.

www.southwest.com/html/travel-tools/ says: "On October 6, 2014, we will open our schedule for sale through June 5, 2015."

Was hoping to book some travel to Punta Cana in March but the fares are higher than I expected. Will wait it out a but will probably end up flying a different carrier. Got used to the cheap non stop flights

Why are flights so expensive in March? Seems like every Thr/Fri and Sun/Mon flight is $325+ for WGA. Insane.

"On October 27, 2014, we will open our schedule for sale through June 5, 2015."

Yes, they are very high for what I was looking for too. I was flexible for destinations too. AA/US is actually cheaper. Here's an example: A bunch of PHL-MCO flights were $800 r/t, because "WGA" fares were "sold out" at 7:10AM this morning. BWI was $400-$500. No thanks.

I fear WN will just pull out of PHL at this rate.

The company typically holds back WGA rates on schedule releases for peak travel periods. If the loads don't materialize you'll see WGA fares pop up.

Agree. I am looking at a short haul that used to run $150 OW and lowest WGA is now $269. That's >$100 than a competing nonstop on the same route. I am willing to pay a small premium to fly WN but not $100x4x2 (roundtrip for 4). Even worse the fare is identical every day of the week - that will definitely change as this is not a holiday week.

WN will be losing this sale soon if it doesn't get realistic about advance pricing.

I was booked PVD to MCO in March right when WN was loading the flights. The prices were outrageous. I ended up looking at the flights on JetBlue. Much cheaper, so I cancelled my WN flights and booked Jetblue. i did not expect to see such high prices right when the flights can out.

March = Spring Break = people sending/taking their offspring to all sorts of warm exotic locales = packed flights = sky-high pricing = whatever the market will bear.

For as long as I can recall, Southwest has held its prices high for peak travel times until the last few weeks before travel. Then and only then will they relent and lower prices if needed to sell all their seats.

Maybe other airlines are dumb, or maybe they have more accurate projections far in advance of how many seats they will sell.
