Oh by the way, does this conversion rate change only applies to AmEx issued cards or does it also apply to any bank issued AmEx cards? (not sure if I'm clear haha).

Basically, will the conversion rates of my UNI$ earned with the UOB PRVI AmEx card be affected as well from May 1st, 2013?....

Applicable only to American Express Cards issued in Singapore by American Express International, Inc. ie. Original AMEX.

Once converted, those miles have a 12 months validity, right? Can't remember...

3 years for KrisFlyer/Asia Miles.

Thanks to this thread, I found out about the change in conversion rate from Membership Rewards points to SQ Krisflyer miles ( devalued from 1.6 Amex Rewards Points for 1 Krisflyer mile to 1.8 Amex Rewards Points for 1 Krisflyer miles) after 31 April 2013

If you have, like me, substantial Amex Points which you have been collecting for SQ miles, may be worth converting before 1 May 2013 or else you will take a 11% devaluation

It's 30 April 2013.

No notice yet at the AMEX MR website. Seems like they want to give AMEX cardholders a heart attack on 01 May 2013 for those who don't read the notice in their card statement.

hi guys, new to the forum.. would like to ask how long does it take for UOB to transfer the miles to my account after the request is made.

Everybody who's a UOB cardholder already signed up to the +25% UNI$ promo?

Or is there a catch in the T&C? :)

Well, max 250UNI$ pet quarter....not nothing, still...

SQ Krisflyer miles effective validity 3.5 years

SQ Krisflyers miles expire three years after they are earned. However, you can extend them for fairly reasonable cost ( I seem to remember it was cheaper to pay USD rather than in miles) for most members ( and I think free for Gold) for another six months. So effectively three and a half years validity

OOps, yes, 30 April 2013!!

I told the AMEX CSR off for not clearly informing cardholders about the change in redemption rates. She mumbled something about on the last statement as well as online, but I would not be surprised if they tried to hide it under the carpet in some fine print somewhere, hoping no one will notice and they get a 11% redemption in their liability on 1 May 2013!

Here is their pathetic escape clause

9.3 The conversion rates for Points into participating Frequent Customer Programmes, minimum Points transfers and incremental transfers vary among participating Frequent Customer Programmes and details are communicated on a regular basis. In any event, Cardmembers should telephone the Membership Rewards Customer Service Hotline for up to date details.

So where exactly do people use it?

I take it paying income tax at AXS machines would not generate 10x UNI$ using this card?

Also not sure about "utilities" and whether telecoms would come under this exclusion, say when topping up a prepaid mobile number?

Seem to be giving free prizes as part of the promotion (?).

Any opinions on this card? I read through the benefits and it seem really weak: https://www.americanexpress.com/sg/s...oduct:KFAscend

Could Amex really flaunt such a chance to launch a new card and make an impact in the market. 1.2$ to get 1KF mile? Really?

Okay so double miles for first 3 months, but then? This is even worse than the 1.06$ per 1 KF mile for the KF Amex Gold after the 50% + 50% bonus (yes you need to spend a fair bit for that, but still). Aiyoh. :)

enelym1978 Apr 25, 2013 2:09 am

I feel like they just threw in some freebies (lounge and free hotel night) to make it look better...

No real big difference otherwise...

if you paid for the membership which is like around $250, they give you a luggage and also 5x miles for the first 3 months with maximum bonus miles of 25,000
