Qatar have confirmed the presence of a policy whereby if a customer booked a QSuites flight and subsequently gets an aircraft type swap can you request travel on an alternative flight, subject to availability, see post #2709 Previously this included change of routing, now it only includes changing the date on the same routing. QR issued tickets only!
Qatar Airways confirms new business class seat

A video of the new Q Suite can be seen here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_yhZDsctiZg

Photos of the new Q Suite can be seen here - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/28007634-post109.html

From TGFlyerGirl:
there are some quite complex rules entries around seat selection - but in essence, solo travellers as a guideline won't be assigned QUADS (they are blocked off), and it's generally for 3/4 pax families. Once a QUAD has been broken up (out of necessity - for example with a couple in the E/F seats), then the rest of the quad is unlocked and can be filled with individual travellers.

They've also made 1A/2B last offered to allow airport flexibility to handle last minute requests. The other 18 windows and aisles are free for reservation as per the normal process.

The bassinet position is 11B/J (77W) and 8B/J (A359), reduced mobility seats are 2/4/6/9 B and J.

All A/E/F/K's are backward facing, all B,D,G,J's are forward facing. Total 20 Forward/22 Backward.

Capacity:
77W: J42/Y312
High density 77W: J24/Y388
77L: J42/Y230
35K: J46/Y281
359: J36/Y247

Which routes have Qsuites?
Details and changes can be found in the various recent threads.

As to other routes NO ONE KNOWS!

I repeat NO ONE KNOWS!! so do not ask!

Which should I believe?
The current seat map. That’s not to say it might not change between now and departure of course, but it is accurate as of the time you look at it.

What about flying first class out of Doha is that worth it over J? I have a flight form DOH to BKK that departs early morning like a little before 8am. It only cost me like 10k more miles so from that perspective it is a good deal. The downside is I end up staying in Doha for three nights. I got a good deal on the hotel but three nights seems like a lot for Doha. I went out of the way to stay so I could fly the F product and experience the lounge. If I switch the flight to J I could depart a day or two earlier and add those days to somewhere else in my trip. I don't mind waiting if the experience is gonna be worth it and maybe people are just nitpicking, but being I have to depart early morning and the J lounge is supposed to be very nice maybe that is the way to go?

Two things -
Just got off a flight with Qsuites yesterday. FA could not stop raiving about the FC lounge in Doha. (She used to work there.) She said the art alone is fantastic. (They get pieces on loan from galleries.) She said it is not uncommon for people to come 5-6 hours early to spend time in the lounge.
Business Class Lounge in the am - only caution is how crazy busy it is between 5am and 8am. They have a huge bank of flights that arrive 5am-7am and another bank that departs between 7:55 and 8:15. A dozen the other day. Expect to wait for a shower (can be hours) and the restaurant (20-30 minutes). Food in restaurant is very good.

As for the FC seat on the A380, I have done it... very nice, but for a 6 hour flight to Bangkok, not sure it is worth much. 10K miles, easy yes when you include lounge access. Add hanging in Doha and extra day or two vs somewhere else - your call.

cheers!

Worth noting that the new J lounge has opened - and there are two threads dedicated to the F and J lounges you might want to review (I linked one earlier)

Just checked my booking to Cape Town in November/December and the flights have changed from B777-300 outbound B777-200 inbound both with Q-suites to A350-900 both ways without Q-suites. Also change of timings inbound but no notification from Qatar of the changes.
However if I try booking for the same dates it says in the flight details that it is an A350-900 with Q-suites but when selecting seats it’s the non Q-suite layout. Annoying but will have to wait and see what sticks

Only possible good thing about this is that it will be the first flight on an A350 but that’s not saying a lot.

Ok, so I thought about calling Qatar, and canceling the return flight and making it the departure flight. And then call American and make that departure flight the returning flight...that way we both fly in on a Qatar ticket and can buy access to Al Safwa First Lounge. Most people on Flyertalk say that this is a horrible idea and that that in order to do that you need to cancel the return ticket and then book again, but there is no guarantee that it will become available again. I still need to book a return ticket from Male for myself (I have already booked a roundtrip ticket for my wife with Qatar Avios for 170k, and a one way departure ticket for myself for 70k AA miles). I did not have enough points to book a return ticket for myself. So instead of waiting to get more credit card points and then transfer them later in a month, is it a good idea to use the Cash+Avios option, or would it be cheaper to just buy the extra Avios?

Thank you so much!

I'm not trying to be snarky, but is the difference between Al Mourjan and Al Safwa really worth all that trouble and extra avios/miles/dollars? I found Al Mourjan amazing and I had an 8 hour layover... And the wait for a shower was 15mins so I wouldn't be worried.

Ok, so another question I had. How much does it cost to access the Jacuzzi? I heard back in 2015 it was an extra 60USD to use, then recently someone said it was free, then after that someone said it is free if you book a massage treatment?

I used it over summer and it was no charge. It is more of a big tub with some jets I mean like bath water where its not maintaining its heat really. But it was still pretty cool to have a hot tub in an airport.

Isolating it to 10k miles, 100% no brainer yes. Big - not huge - difference in experience. (skipping the extra night debate as that is a personal choice.)

15 minute wait for a shower (or less) exists outside the am rush. During the 5-7am hours, it is always a loooog wait. Even with the new/additional lounges.

I will not speak to true motion sickness, but I really dislike takeoffs (my stomach doesn't handle it well). However, I found that sitting backwards was much better for me. YMMV.

A reminder to be careful what you wish for with Qsuites. I had a great flight BOS-DOH on the "old" A350-900 and actually found the seating configuration to be pretty excellent albeit lacking in privacy. On return with Qsuites (tail AMZ for those interested), my seat 1F broke completely about 5 minutes into the flight - total power failure on the seat motor. I had to have the crew manually lower it into flat-bed and manually raise it back (into takeoff/landing position) when I wanted to eat. Needless to say, that fully erased any Qsuites magic for me and made for a generally disappointing end to a vacation.

Crew was still excellent but noncommittal about any form of reimbursement... anyone know the best way to get some compensation from Qatar? And no, I don't count the 1.5 bottles worth of LP Alexandra I consumed between the two flights as sufficient :-)

Coming up on our first Q-quite experience next week (PHL-DOH). While we've been trying to figure out how to dress comfortably, I recall reading in older threads about QR providing pajamas? Is this still the case? Slippers also? Anyone with recent experience that can provide some details?

Thanks!

Yes and yes. They're pretty comfy and smell great, though they are pretty thin so if you tend to be cold sleeping you might want to put something else on top.
