MBNA Amtrak MC

Got the new T&Cs in yesterdays mail, nothing about a 3% fee. Called anyway and was told ALL MBNA cards have had it for awhile now. Was transferred to a mgr, who spoke to his Mgr and seems that the deal with Amtrak is simply the reg 1% by MC and Nothing more.

Ive used the card Overseas alot this past yr and even earlier this week and can Confirm its but 1% and not 3% and that it remain as such after 6/30 as well.

Pts can be used for Amtrak or transferrs to Hilton or Continental, or Gift Cards. I cant stand Cap One which I got and then cancelled. Ive had nothing but great service from MBNA.

1% foreign exchange fee for using Citi atm card at overseas citi atm

I can confirm that Citibank is charging the 1% foreign exchange fee for using your Citibank ATM card at an overseas Citibank ATM machine.

I used the Citi ATM machine at Narita airport last Monday...and was charged a 1% foreign exchange fee as a separate line item.

Don't forget to inform your credit card company you will be out of the country and charging on your card. We had one of our card decline our transaction...

I just noticed that my Merrill+ Visa jumped from 5.8% interest to 8.9%. I called them and apparently this went into effect this year for all Merrill+ cards. So now I'm wondering what is the lowest interest rate card out there (given that I have excellent credit).

And since most all of my transactions on Visa are outside the US, what is the best for that these days?

TIA!

You carry a balance? The horror! There are plenty of cards out there with 0% intro APRs. Some for more than a year. Chase and Citi have both been known to offer cards with 0% on balance transfers and no balance transfer fees, which is the best bet (b/c then you can use another card to earn points/miles/cash-back, and still take advantage of the low interest rate).

I carry a balance often because I spend thousands on business travel each month and my expense checks sometimes take a while to catch up. However I don't do the 0% intro deals since they only last a few months and then if you don't act quickly you have huge rates to pay. I have had the 5.9% Merrill+ card for a couple of years so I never had to worry.

And you can't get your company to hook you up with an AmEx corporate card or something similar with a 60-day grace period?

I don't want a corporate card. I have a Centurion Amex and a Starwood Amex. I use the Visa to juggle expenses and for certain personal expenses.

I have a friend basically transfer her balance from her UA Visa to her Citi MC
every month ... She never uses the Citi MC for any charge - its sole purpose is to take in the BT.

You have a full 12 months to juggle your expenses.

I thought I finally had it sorted out (Visa = 1%, MC = 3%), but apparently that's not right either. If we could just get all the MBNA Fidelity people to post the following, we could maybe decipher a pattern:
  • What is the EXACT name of your account?
  • Does your account give you automatic deposits into your Fidelity account or do you have to affirmatively convert points into Fidelity deposits?
  • Visa or MC?
  • When did you open your account?
  • When did you last check to see if it was 1% or 3%?

Unfortunately, most people seem to just post "Fidelity is now 3%" or "My Fidelity card is 1%." But there are several different kinds of Fidelity cards, both Visa and MC.
Okay, I'll start.
I have the Fidelity Investments Investment Rewards Signature Visa.
It does NOT automatically deposit into my Fidelity account, I have to manually request it.
It is a Visa card.
I opened the account in Feb 2006.
I checked in late March/early April 2006, that it was indeed 1%.

This all seems to agree with your visa is 1%, mc is 3% theory.

Calling the rep never seems to help. I've talked to two before my trip, and they both said I had a 3% fee ( like all other MBNA cards). But upon receiving my statement, I did not get charged (just as my T&C said).

Edit: top right hand of my card says world points. if that helps.

My turn. I got the change in T&C in the mail today, there will be a 3% foreign transaction fee effective 6/30/06. This is on my MBNA Fidelity Investment Rewards Platinum Plus MasterCard, which I got in Sept 04. The 1.5% cash rebate is automatically transferred to my Fidelity every quarter.

Time to join a credit union!

That's the exact same notice i got over a week ago for the same card. Sounds like they're staggering the mailings but everyone gets the change effective 6/30.

Right, but only MasterCards are being sent the change of T&C (so far). I wonder when the Visa's will get hit.

Is CapitalOne VISA now the ONLY card that gives any sort of return, be it miles or a rebate, and also does not charge an extra foreign exchange fee?

It's the only one we know about for sure on the wiki:

http://www.flyertalk.com/wiki/index....hange#The_List

It's possible some MBNA cards are still 0-1% and still offer worldpoints or the Fidelity 1.5% rebate. But that seems to be changing, and there's no guarantee that your new account won't have a 3% fee like most MBNA cards.

> It's possible some MBNA cards are still 0-1%

I received mail yesterday from MBNA that all their Visa and Mastercards will be 3% for foreign transactions. Lots of other fees that I hadn't noticed before, including one for going over the credit limit.
