I guess it doesn't have to make sense to me. It only has to make sense to American Express.

I personally didn't get the e-mail offer, so this SPG member is not rewarded at all. Thoughts............
My apologies, but my thoughts are really of no importance here. I was merely asked to clarify some points that had arisen earlier. If you want answers as to the targeting matrices, those are going to have to come from other quarters.

The SPG card is issued by Amx (Centurion Bank), not by Starwood. As a starwood rep, I don't think William can speak for amx.

And personally, I can think of many reasons why the extra 5k points would prove to be worthwhile for amx to do that, as the pool of applicants would likely be different for a public offer or a invite only offer, not to mention building up goodwill and loyalty for their existing customers.

I disagree. I can promise that both companies have input in these deals of co-branding. No way would either company leave their brand/image in the hands of the other.

As for the referrals, I think they are great for existing card members but i wish there could be a separate thread as anytime there is an SPG thread it turns into begging for referrals. The deal and discussion of it take a very back seat to the posts of " first name, last name and email address, and I will refresh my browser every 8 seconds until 10pm tonight"

But what reasons can you come up with for only allowing some existing customers to invite others? I have an SPG card and opted in for offers. I have been an AmEx member since 1988. I can attest to the fact that they are not generating any goodwill with me.

When I called AmEx the CSR stated that these offers are sent out on a quarterly basis and everyone will get some throughout the year. Right.

I was asking Williams OPINION as a SPG rep about Centurion Banks promotion of his represented product. He may in fact not be able to or feel comfortable discussing that on an open forum. That I would certainly understand. It would be for him to address though. As far as building goodwill within the customer base??? I don't get that, the ones who hit the lottery, great......The ones that didn't........sorry for your luck! Guess it depends upon which camp your in.

This is the link to refer, though I don't know if it's the same for everyone.

They want to limit their exposure to providing additional Starpoints? They have a budget for new accounts they need to hit and their experience means that they know they will hit this by sending out X number of solicitations?

There are plenty of reasons that they may have for this, it doesn't mean that we have to like them (I didn't get the e-mail either). A well-prepared marketing campaign will have already weighed up the cost of likely customer dissatisfaction and factored this in to the profit margin before proceeding.

We apologize that the offer you are looking for may no longer be available.
Click here to learn more and apply for the current offer.

Can someone post the Referral Link from the Business referral email? Anyone with an SPG Biz card should be able to use it to refer others and anyone without a Biz card will of course be grateful for someone willing to think of others and perhaps repay that kindness with referral requests instead of just using the parsed link posted earlier.

If it's a personal link, no can do. Borrow MOD's words from another SPG Amex thread:

Thanks.
I believe TOS apply to referral links too since it's supposed to be done in SPAM Forum.
