Yes.

Thanks. I know it's a newbie question and I apologize if I was thread****ting.

I really want this card for my day-to-day spending but am still working on the spend req for the Citi AA cards. It says the offer expires August 10th--does anyone know if that means I have to apply by then or be approved by then? I thought Rick Ingersoll's post said it was the 22nd, so I'm a little unclear on the dates and what they actually mean.

You should apply before the cut off date, that's how these things usually go.

It looks like Amex/SPG jumped the gun and released this offer early which may be why the expiration date has been moved forward as well from the original information that Rick was given.

If an official from SPG says it ends on the 10th (like we got a few posts ago) then I would want to apply by then just so I don't run the risk of missing out on the deal.

You need to apply for it by the 10th. Even if the approval takes a day or two beyond that, you should be fine

• American Express recently sent an email to current SPG Amex Cardmembers promoting a “Member-get-Member” campaign, which allows existing Cardmembers to refer a friend or colleague for the Card and earn 5,000 Starpoints for each approved friend. The difference with this campaign versus those in the past is that the friend or colleague can now take advantage of a new, richer offer, and earn up to 30,000 Starpoints. Over the next few weeks, Consumer Cardmembers and OPEN (Small Business) Cardmembers with an email address which is opted-in may receive this offer from American Express. This offer expires August 10, 2011.
• This campaign is open to all US SPG Amex Cardmembers who receive the e-mail (it it not currently available for Canada or UK Cardmembers).
• There is also an offer on the Cardmember account page on americanexpress.com for 10,000 Starpoints per approved referral. However, the offer for friends/colleagues is 10,000 first purchase and an additional 15,000 after spending $15,000 in your first 6 months. This offer expires July 25, 2011.

What qualifies one AMEX holder over another to receive the e-mail?

It just seems a little weird that AmEx/SPG would target people to send out referrals but not target who can be referred. I could understand sending out a targeted offer to a specific demographic but this is just bizarre.

I would suggest taking these up with American Express directly since only they know for sure. You can log into their secure message center and send a missive to their social media team and I'm sure someone will get back to you.

With two threads now on different 30K SPG offers it may get confusing to newbies. Here is the "Referral necessary" thread link: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/miles...-referral.html

Under Social Media Inquiry in the secure message center, I have to choose either Twitter or Facebook to be able to send a message. Which one should I choose? Thanks!

Anyone? I just need a URL, and I can log in using my own username and password to send out referrals. Thanks!

I did. Twice. And both times I got answers that didn't make sense and were unsatisfactory. They just kept on saying that I can refer friends for the 25,000 points, and when I asked the second time about the 30,000 points offer, they again answered that I can refer friends for the 25,000 points offer. So unfortunately, the message center was not helpful at all.

That's unfortunate, but I don't have an answer to your question either.

I got that email too. Amex has a twitter account; they might be more helpful.

This is the link to refer, though I don't know if it's the same for everyone.

Dear xxxxxx

Now is a great time to refer a friend for The Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express. Not only can you get 5,000 Starpoints for each friend approved for the Card1, but you can be among the first to share with your friends a limited-time offer for up to 30,000 Starpoints2. Additionally, your friends can enjoy the Card at no annual fee for the first year — a savings of $65.3

It's easy to refer a friend and get extra Starpoints.

• Fill out the short online form to recommend as many friends as you wish. Each friend will receive an e-mail shortly after, with a special offer for The Starwood Preferred Guest®
Credit Card.4

• For each friend that applies for the Card through that e-mail and is approved, you'll get 5,000 Starpoints.

• There is no limit to how many people you can refer.

And remember, the more people you refer, the more Starpoints you can get, so tell a friend today. This offer expires August 10, 2011.

This e-mail advertisement was sent to [email protected] as part of our Other Incentives communications.

As a Starwood rep, does it make sense to you that if the current promo was open to all (as it is) without the referal it would in fact save SPG 5000 star points per new account? How about how many additional applications would you get if you just added the additional 5000 points to the current 30k deal? I personally didn't get the e-mail offer, so this SPG member is not rewarded at all. Thoughts............
