Exhibit A; How many of us Platinum's have received free breakfast at Marriott resorts? I did at the JW in Phuket (best buffet ever) and Marriott Los Suenos is Costa Rica (worst buffet ever). At the other 20 or so Marriott or Renaissance resorts I have stayed at: Nothing. Zero. Nada. Bupkas.

Just checked the YTD and I'm clocking in at 170 nights this year (some rollover/CC but majority are butt-in-bed) with about $30k hotel spend. Wondering if I should expect Santa to bring something extra special or not?
Would be curious what any recent PP recipients had when they qualified? Did you find out mid-year or only at year end? |

I think there is a fundamental difference in the way PPs are treated in the US versus elsewhere.
I am typing this note from my executive suite at County Hall in London and I am hitting about 80% suite upgrades (with fruit basket in the room) at the hotel. Grosvenor Square only scores about 50% but there's a fruit basket, chocolates and champagne waiting for me in the room. I'm staying at Grosvenor House next week and have about a 2 in 3 chance of getting a suite there, based on past stays. Outside Europe I stayed at the Manila Marriott a couple of weeks ago and the turndown service came to the room and presented me with a new bathrobe that had my name embroidered on the left breast. In the US, my experience has been far more ordinary, with little if any recognition. So.... my takeaway is, if you want PP recognition, leave the US and the benefits will exceed your expectations. |
Forget Platinum Premier, aim for Lifetime Platinum.
I used to be PP for many years and now a happy Marriott Lifetime Platinum in addition to SPG Lifetime Platinum. Now, my hotel program focus is Hilton HHonors (Diamond) and Hyatt Gold Passport (Diamond) renewal every year. Hilton is easy, I base this on their "base points" criteria whilst Hyatt is based on 25 stays. |

I agree. I travel internationally and domestic - the benefits received overseas are significantly better. That being said, I find that I receive better than reported benefits domestically than most here report. It might be my stay pattern, it might be my glowing personality, it might just be luck. For me, PP has been more than worth it.

Wow, after reading this thread I find myself breathing a sigh of relief about not getting picked for PP. I stay approximately 420 nights a year (checked in full time at a TownePlace Suites + additional biz travel to mostly Marriott and Ren locations) and have a spend that is probably $40k - $50K+ and have done this for probably 4 years now, and no PP. It HAD BEEN irking me, but honestly, if there's no real benefit, and there's a chance that the check in desk personnel don't know what "Premiere" is and are likely to treat me less well than simply being Platinum . . . I count myself lucky at this point (here's to hoping that I just didn't jinx myself). It DOES make me wonder what Marriott is thinking with this program. I mean, if you offer an exclusive level of membership and people cannot decidedly tell that it provides benefit, you're sorta' just pissing off your best customers. They'd be better off making the selection criteria even tighter (maybe top 1%) and then REALLY rolling out the read carpet (i.e., assign a personal concierge for each stay, complimentary meals regardless of the hotel type, complimentary airport pick up, etc.).

Just noticed that PP offers Complimentary one-year Hertz #1 Club Gold membership. Is this a PP exclusive or do other levels also have this benefit?

And no special bath robe, fruit basket, wine etc. So sometimes staying internationally (outside north america) makes no difference. |
You should be a top 50 guest at that property, and you need to introduce yourself to the front desk manager and the GM. Anyone staying that much at one hotel should not be blown off.

Be Grateful!
Have you noticed?
Food costs have gone up 10-20% plus this past year. Thank God!, they haven't raised the Menu prices to match! ^ We could all help by not being waistful or wasteful in the Lounge! :td: |
