but like to mention that around at check-in while playing the "subject to availability" upgrade game.

I prefer PLT-A-TUDE !!! :p
But seriously folks, its more akin to polite name dropping when you can tell that your status has been completely ignored or never considered in the first place. It just doesn't happen automatically as we are led to believe. Last night I said nothing and got a non-CL room next to the ice maker. When I went down to move away from the machine, magically, a Jr Suite (just an added couch) appeared on the CL... YMMV. How about answer to the question in addition to the jab? :) |

I have no answer. I'm plat...always plat never PP. |
Marriott Seattle Airport - Got welcome fruit platter and a note welcoming me to the property already awaiting me in the pre-selected room on CL floor. Unfortunately it was on the noisy side (7th floor above the a/c units on the roof of the conference area). Used the business card that came in the envelope with the note to contact and ask if I could be moved to the quieter room next morning while I am at work. I came back and my suitcase was moved (after I said it is ok) into a new room on the other side of the building on the 9th floor). Very nice!
Renaissance Seattle - booked in the morning of arrival and shortly after my reservation showed one bedroom corner king suite upgrade. Nice! (FD forgot to ask me about arrival gift however ;) |

DYKWIA!!!!!!
Made a reservation a few days ago with the usual request for an upgrade or at least the CL (as a PP). Checked in today, place pretty empty. FD was training a trainee and I was glad to play along. Asked whether I wanted a King and High Floor (both in profile) so it was apparent my room wasn't pre-blocked or "automatically upgraded". I quietly asked if my PP request had been considered. The trainer took a look at my profile (I assume), commented that "he's a big one" and instructed the trainee to find an upgrade. Assigned a corner king on the CL. More excited about the lack of noise being on the top floor and in the corner than the extra room since I'm alone. So my point is that you have to ask, always. Again, what a great property. |
-1, been routinely upgraded prior to arrival and I'm not a PP.........

Unfortunately, there are many properties in the USA that do not preblock upgrades for elite members, even PP.

how unfortunate.....guess there are reasons to live in asia.............guess I'll have to wait until June to determine how Marriott props in Moscow, St Pete, Malmo, Copenhagen and Dusseldorf treat us.........and next yr for US/Can...........

The level of service has a bigger spread in North America versus Asia. Some properties are great, and it helps if you stay frequently at a specific hotel. I have not had any major issues, but I tend to concentrate most of my Marriott stays at about 25 hotels across the USA. I have yet to run into a hotel that does not know what PP is.

Malmo: great! Spending a lot of time there at the moment and the hotel, rooms and staff are excellent. Top tip: do not accept a room on the 2nd floor at the front of the hotel (I was in 226, can't remember the range but it's about 222 to 230). Most of these rooms are directly above TGI Fridays next door to the hotel and the music pumps until the small hours. Unless you like to be sent to sleep by loud music of course.

If it's 2, then no compensation is due & 30 minutes is actually a reasonable timeframe. If it's 1, while not at the time of check-in it's close enough to check-in I wouldn't bother w/ trying to collect $100, but that's just me. However, given all the other problems you encountered I can certainly understand why you would request it. Cheers. |
I'm closing in on my longest streak of PP awfulness: 7 consecutive properties with no arrival gift including 3 of those 7 arguing with me when I grabbed an item from the market and preemptively suggested I just take a single bottle of water for my amenity. Instead of going with all three said something like "your status code doesn't say platinum".
Oh Marriott, you do such a good job with consistency!!! |

Oh Marriott, you do such a good job with consistency!!! With any luck, you are checking in after regular business hours, and the GM or front desk manager has gone home for the day. If that is the case, the poorly trained and tactless FD clerk will pass the message to the manager the next morning, which is when you will get the call. You then tell that manager you were REFUSED your welcome amenity, that the FD clerk did not know enough to welcome you verbally as a Plat or BETTER member, and you want your $50 or $100 (depending on the brand) right that moment! If you received $50 or $100 three or four hotels in a row, how upset would you be with Marriott for not training their desk clerks properly? Heck, if you arranged all of your hotel stays to be one nighters, and moved to another Marriott brand in that same town or city, you could create your own cottage industry! Just imagine, you have a $94 rate booked at a CY, and the GM had to hand you a $100 bill, would you be laughing all the way to the bank, or what? |
