You don't want the status. Remember how you were treated as a silver? If not, then you will.

In my case, I called the Platinum line in February to ask some questions about benefits at a RC I was considering, including points versus money and room types. Along the way, the agent said something like "since you are platinum premier...." which didn't immediately register with me. After hanging up I had a moment of "did I hear right?" and called back to ask. They told me the good news, although I had to wait anxiously for the package to arrive in March.
So, NO, you will not be notified, although apparently you can call and ask, but the phone reps might not know whether the decisions for the year have been made and implemented yet.

Platinum Premier Misses
After checking into yet another FS Marriott property and being assigned a room completely opposite my request (Airport view, high floor) and received 6th floor (out of 20) looking into a rooftop, I went down to the front desk to check out and go elsewhere. Seeing the manager out front, I engaged him with the following question:
ME: "Good evening Sir, can you explain to me what the Platinum Premier program is". MGR: "It's for our best guests who stay 75 or more nights a year. Would you like to sign up for the program?" ME: "No thanks, I am already at night 159 this year" MGR: "Wow, and you're not a member of MR?" So thus began my latest quest to find some kind of satisfaction with the PP program. I just explained to him what I had requested and that I would like to check out and make arrangements with the Westin nearby. He wanted to make it right for me, so we walked to the front desk, and again reiterated my request and they suddenly had a fantastic corner room available. The exact words "We're pretty empty tonight so you can have your pick". I replied "If I asked for this room on check in, why didn't you offer it then?" They mumbled about a "misunderstanding." I wish I could say this is the exception, but it's the norm. |
you mean to say in all the stays you've accrued towards PP that you never read from any of these posts or knew that PP status really got you nothing more then a new piece of plastic showing that you're PP vrs. P WITHOUT any additional benees except bragging rights!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am just a lowly Platinum and my experience at just about every Marriott I have stayed at this year has been great.
Also how did you enter all those requests into your reservation? Is there a comments section? I used to see one but no more when I book. Any reason you didn't give them a chance to make it right rather than go through the hassle of changing hotels? |

Any reason you didn't give them a chance to make it right rather than go through the hassle of changing hotels? No comments entered in reservation, only asked at check-in. The room was not pre-assigned. And there is my point, when I was Platinum things seemed to be much better. Used to get suites from time to time, including the presidentials at four or five hotels. With the exception of the LAX Airport Marriott, I haven't received a single room upgrade this year. At this point, I'm just happy to get offered the arrival gift without having to request it. |
Every hotel I have stayed at knows what Platinum Premier is. This does not mean that I get anything extra from all these properties, but it helps when things go wrong.

Had a very like experience at the FS Marriott Country Club Plaza two weeks ago. Arrived at the lobby at 5pm, and was told my room wasn't ready, and I was being assigned a different room. I knew I was in trouble when that was stated. I said I will wait for my assigned room, and instantly I was given a room key to a lower floor (requested high floor, and prefer concierge level as a platinum).
I don't want to argue and challenge every time I check into a FS Marriott. My sense is when I check in and it goes bad, time to move on. I did leave the Marriott CCP early, as the internet didn't work, shower didn't drain and the concierge lounge was beyond bad. I headed over to a Autograph property, the Raphael Hotel, and had what was likely the best hotel stay overall ever. Like the OP, I will stay in a hotel 200+ days this year (this was a ten night stay). Lesson learned, when it goes bad in the beginning, be prepared to move on. |
As a PP, at best you get the same treatment you get as P. And on far too many occasions they do not even think it is a status.
Have to say that after become PP, this is my first year to start spreading around my stays to other chains based on what Marriott is doing. |
Used to be a happy PP for the past few years in Asia Pacific region until recently after Marriott has changed the T&C to upgrade the Plat to suite. In the past, PP has a fairly good chance to be upgraded to suite but now it is based on availability and first come first in basis as most of the suites are given to PLT members. Since suite upgrade is already given to PLT members, it would be no harm for Marriott to secure the upgrade for PP before arrival.

If I stop before I reach the point that I could get PP, I'd also get 45 rollover nights towards next year. I assume if I made PP on 125 nights I would then get 0 rollovers next year. I think based on what everyone is saying about PP I'd rather be P with 45 rollovers than PP with 0. It's a real shame that PP isn't an established level with documented benefits. |
