Due to my companies cost containment measures, I normally stay at Couryards. Not high priced ones, like NYC, either. $80 - $120 is normal. And, I have been PP for 4 years at least (that was when I noticed it). I do stay about 150 nights a year and I use my points for hotel stays mainly.

Don't know if it was due to status, but called the PP line since I accidentally let my free night visa cert expire and they were able to get it reinstated for another 6 months. They also called a property and were able to book me at a rate I was not authorized for, in order to price match a one week stay, when my corporation had a a cheaper rate at a competitor. |

The thing that upsets me about this post and even the post of "platinum premier level" is that there is almost no REAL information. It seems like a lot of rants about people NOT getting it. So here's some information that I extracted from my co-worker and working around a culture of people that care about culture.
Here's what she said: Stay over 125 nights/year (easy) Stay at the SAME hotel SPEND points on a nice hotel. She told me essentially, big dollar / big name hotels will nominate people for platinum premier. So if you're courtyarding it, you're probably not gonna get it. She also told me that nearly everyone at the hotel knew her by name. BENEFITS Exceptions to rules - if there are no rooms available, you won't have to pay the price on the door. You can pay the reasonable rate that you typically get Coupons - Some good deals. Rewards - Something to the effect of discounted rewards. If you normally couldn't get a point saver reward, you all of a sudden can. Something like that. Phone Reservation Line - A line with people that speak impeccable English, they are paid more per hour and can provide special accommodations. I had this conversation while walking to our cubes and it was the last thing she said and I didn't ask her to explain in detail. I will ask more but she's pretty busy and I don't think she particularly cares about platinum premier. She just said, "they should clear out the whole hotel for me - I'm Platinum Premier." Just keep in mind that Platinum Premier is a membership group that is micro-managed. So someone try this. Stay at a big name hotel Log 40 STAYS / a year with that hotel with 125 nights same hotel and become buddy buddy with the general manager. Spend your points on ...... hotels. She told me that she likes to stay at JW Marriott's or nice Renaissance's. I somehow think this matters. They don't want their plat premier people to be courtyarding or residence inning and it makes sense. There is nothing premier about courtyards, or inns. AGE - honestly, I think age matters. They want someone that reflects real constant loyalty. Someone that will not leave Marriott for the whims of an SPG promo or Conrad discount. I've got a lot of consultant buddies and everyone logs 150 + nights year. But everyone is switching hotels - to different marriott's in between and some are courtyarding / res inning it because they like the free internet and breakfast. The year I made it I spent the last 18 months at a RI on a govt rate that was under $100. And the hotel is not clearly out anything for a PP, most times the front desk doesn't even know the difference between a PP and a Plat. Next guess. |
Platinum Premiere
I have 80 Marriott nights this year and 59 IC nights plus assorted others totaling about 10. Any idea how many it takes to make Plat Premiers and is it worth it. Thanks
|
The short answer is that there isn't a set number of nights that will get you PP status. It changes each year and Marriott also looks at other "indicators" like how much money you have spent at Marriott. The following is a list of some previous PP threads where your questions have been bantered around quite a bit.

There is no magic number of nights. PP is the top 3% of Plats.
The following is a GUESS on my part: Top 3% is based on total annual spend on hotel rooms. So someone who stayed 150 nights at $279 FS properties would trump someone staying 200 nights at $119 Courtyards. FWIW, in 2006 I stayed 103 nights mainly at FS properties in the $200-300 range and did not make PP and it really didn't matter since there is really no substantial difference between Plat and PP. Now, earning the additional nights and points toward LT Plat is well worth the extra stays IMO. |
Thanks, my stays are usually low revenue (fairfields and a few CY's). I will check the threads. Thanks again

Also, if you read through the linked threads, you should find that there are some who get PP while staying predominently at non-FS, non-high cost hotels. So it can be done. |
As a current data point, last year, I stayed at an execustay for technically 365 nights at $169 a night (Since you pay by the month). And didn't get Plat Premier.
A co worker of mine stayed at a FS Marriott for the same year, 192 nights and got it, lost it this year. His stays averaged $285 a night. This year I have stayed at Marriott Properties for 110 nights so far, averaging about $285 a night and got nothing. Another co worker of mine, who was in the execustay last year, moved to the hotel I am usually at this year a month after I did. She says she was just awarded Plat Premier a few weeks ago, and has been less than 100 nights this year and we have a corp contract rate, so she should be averaging $285 a night as well. So their could be other factors too. Not sure. My friend who got it last year, said he noticed no significant benefit to it. |
I think it is just a hit or miss thing....or the secret formula is in Ed french's or Mr. Marriott's head...............
I have it....and frankly there is NO difference...half the time they don't answer Plat Premier line, just Plat line...and 7 of 10 times when i CALL they answer the phone..."thanks for calling...blah blah, how may I help you today MR megtravels...." and i say ...that is MISS megtravels:rolleyes: |
I've been PP for the past 3 years. Was Plat for 7 years running prior. Stay mostly in CY, the occassional MC and JW (mostly on vacation at resorts). Average about 130 nights/year with Marriotts.
I exceeded 1k nights 2 years ago, so maybe that's played a factor, and I'm in the 1.9MM lifetime points range, so maybe that's in play also. The only difference I've really noticed is at check in, when the desk clerk says "thank you for being Platinum Premier". That's about it. |

690 nights and just under 4M points here. 2011 for LT Gold and 2013/14 for LT Plat. |

Sheesh..................and my profile SAYS female...and I told a supervisor to make a note of that somehow! |
