I see 4 main options to deal with this PP issue.

1. Quietly opt out (i.e. drop your nights so they don't invite you back).
2. Make a point of opting out by sending a letter to Mr. Marriott saying "if this is how you treat your best customers I don't want to be one of them, please immediately downgrade me to Plat".
3. Take an aggressive stance with the front desk upon check in (show them the card, ask them if they know what it is, ask them if they know what it takes to get one. When they say 75 nights, ask for the manager and the GM's phone number. Leave a message for the GM that his staff doesn't know anything about Marriott's 'best' customers).
4. Shut up, do nothing and just take it, hoping you'll run into the random property that has trained their staff on how to handle PPs.

Great post, and I've chosen option 4. #1 and #2 would make me leave Marriott, which is far and away my preferred chain. #3 would make me a pompous prick. So I've enjoyed the few times that #4 has worked for me, without really knowing if it's because I'm a PP or if they treat all plats especially well.

Such is life, and thank the gods that this is one of the biggest issues I have to worry about in my life...

Plat Premier info removed from marriott.com

Very interesting the link on the 'program information' page for Plat Prem is no longer valid.

https://www.marriott.com/rewards/hotel-rewards.mi

Not sure if Plat Prem shows up for everyone as if I go to this page when I'm not logged in, it only shows Silver, Gold and Plat. But if you do have the plat prem link, it goes to an invalid page.

Maybe Marriott is making some changes to platinum premier, including the possibility of getting rid of the level.

Would be really interesting to get some confirmation on this one way or another. I'm one of the few that has found value in the Plt Prem program....and given my loyalty it is nice to have something to 'get' when I go so far above the platinum mark.

I am Plat and only see the three levels on that page.

Plat is not going away. They are increasing bonus from 30% to 50%.

As far as Plat Prem it was unpublished to begin with.

bdschobel Nov 24, 2008 5:17 pm

That's right. But we're talking about Platinum Premier, a level above "regular" Platinum that may be going away. The fact that it was unpublished seems irrelevant. Either it's going away or it's not.

Just to clarify, we are all talking about the "Tier" page, right?

Are there any Plat Prem's that aren't seeing that listed under "Your Status"?

waltinsocal Nov 24, 2008 10:21 pm

I just logged in and it still shows Platinum Premier.

deac83 Nov 24, 2008 10:38 pm

Just to be clear, I'm not saying it's going away. I'm saying that on the linked page, the Plat Premier link now goes nowhere.

Also if you are not plat prem you'll only see silver, gold and plat. But for those of us who are Plat Prem, one the page it is 4th on the list.

Maybe Marriott is just confirming there are not any benefits for being Plat Prem. :D

DJ_Iceman Nov 25, 2008 8:42 pm

The link is there but doesn't work for me, either.

I take this as a good sign. In the past, the benefits listing was EXACTLY the same as for platinum, with the only difference being a separate phone number (that generally is answered "Marriott Rewards Platinum Line" anyway). Maybe they are going to take some of our feedback to heart and make some tangible enhancements to this level which, after all, is supposed to be only for "the top 3% of platinum members worldwide".

I'm a Premier and while the link doesn't work for me either, there are lots of extras I get as a Premier. I typically get a suite and both points & the choice of an amenity. It's really pretty cool, especially in properties I frequent alot.

Or Hilton Diamond - Hilton were you actually get free breakfast as a gold / diamond member in pretty much every hotel, seven days a week. As opposed to Marriott where you only get free breakfast at some full service hotels, Monday to Friday (and it seems like only in States with more than 12 letters in the name, but I'm probably exagerating).
