I hope this can be combined with the Visa free night cert.

You can probably use it for any stay. It's just a one category room upgrade for one night.

Can this cert. be used at a Ritz Carlton property?

Drew (AKA Marriott Concierge),
I have an award reservation along with an upgrade reservation. Can I switch out this certificate and have the 5k miles redeposited in my account? Thanks!!! (Also, thank you for all the valuable help you give to us!!! I wish all companies would have an official presence on FT...) |

To those who think Starwood Platinum or Hilton Diamond are as good as (or better than) Marriott Platinum (or Platinum Premier)--please, take your business to those other chains. My experience has been different, and I'm happy to have fewer people vying with me for room upgrades or for breakfast in the lounge.
Good new for you!! I wont be competing with you to get nothing as a reward at Marriott properties anymore!! MR plat |

I disagree with the benefits.
I have been a PP since the beginning of 2007. I have stayed 250-300 nights during that time. I have NOT had a suite exactly 4 times. Now, I tend to book well in advance and stay at the same hotels week in/out. However, those that weren't on my frequent itinerary still upgraded me. You just have to ask nicely. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar :) Was it because I was PP, not really more that I'd been staying there for 8 months first and second that I was PP. There are properties that know what a PP is, but far more that are clueless. IMO not really a benefit if I have to kiss up to the front desk to get it. |
Premier Dining Program??
Just saw this while perusing my account online today:
Premier Discount Dining Program To thank you for being one of our most loyal and valued guests, and to make your travel experiences even more rewarding, this year we are pleased to offer you 3 coupons for a 20% discount at participating Marriott restaurants and lounges in the U.S. and Canada. We sent you these coupons in your 2009 membership kit, so you should have them shortly, if not already. To use them, simply present one of the coupons to your server as you order. The discount is valid for up to 2 people. Alcoholic drinks are not covered. Does anyone have the certificates in hand yet to see what the participating properties are? |

Staying at the same hotel week after week is not quite comparable. From Jan-Mar last year I had the exact same room on the C-floor even though I was only there 4 nights per week.

No...interesting....another little bone...
I haen't gotten my welcome kit yet.....I still think the BOGO is better....but if it's 20% off the whole check (except the aforementioned adult beverages..) i guess it's not bad....Not GREAT but not bad....... on second thought, 20% really isn't that great of a discount....... |
[Edited: I just noticed that Drew (Marriott Concierge) has replied to this with more clarity. I apologize for any "duplicate information"]
I just called Marriott Rewards on this one. It's Complimentary Reward for PP after an Elite year. No points are deducted from your account. It can be used to upgrade view, room type, or add additional rooms (or to a Penthouse) at various properties, including MVCI properties (with some restrictions). Call your Platinum Premier desk for specifics, or Platinum Premier Reservations to use it. Steve |
So far I have seen nothing more from being PP, the phone line seems the same. The answer it Plat Line ..... go figure, *woods here I come.

PP is the top 3% of all Plats. With the economy tanking, fewer folks traveling, spending less in fewer FS properties, I suspect the curve was lowered.
I hit 143 nights in '07 & 120 in '08 and still made Premier for '09. I still get lots of UG to suites, not everytime, but I'm 3/3 this year, one CY & two FS. I sincerely hope you all find *wood/Hyatt/etc comfortable. It's less competition for me to continue to nab the suites. Even if I was unhappy at Marriott, and I'm clearly not, the other guys just don't have enough properties in the cities I work in to make it worth my time to change programs. |
No PP here
I had 123 paid nights at FS hotels last year but obviously do not hit the magic mark. Been a platinum member since 2005.
Will be lucky to do half that number this year. SM |
why shouldn't you have to ask? Just curious. You are already 'expecting' them to upgrade you to suite, which isn't in the terms and conditions. It also seems like you now 'expect' them to upgrade you to a suite before check, again, not in the terms and conditions.
If they have availability, they should be upgrading platniums and platnium premiers to the best room they have. SUITES are not rooms. Suites are an added bonus. Additionally those upgrades are to be given AT TIME OF CHECK IN. It's no wonder that some peg platniums and platnium premiers as elitiest's. I'm a humble PP and proud of it. I don't expect it, maybe that's why I get it :)

My point is that I should not have to ask! I earned PP status, it is up to the hotel to make me happy......and when I ask I do ask nicely....but the onus is on the HOTEL to take care of its guests...not on the PP to tell them what to do. (incidentally, I am generally given an upgrade at hotels where I am NOT a frequent guest as opposed to those in which I stay often.....)

Line from a movie, can't remember which: "uncertainty excites me." Its my understanding that, as a premier, there are no promised benefits etched in stone. As a premier the last several years, its always been fun to run into the unexpected. Sometimes I've been offered suites that you could camp a small army in. As a loyal and low maintenance reader of this forum, many times I've simply given the suite back and asked them to give it to the next "gold" who checks in. I always figured it would be good PR for the program and, judging from many of the posts, make someone's day. I always take the 500 gift points. There are some properties that insist I take the points and pick out another gift as well - its always diet coke and a couple scoops of ice cream to make a float (never take the whole pint). At the Orlando airport, they've started charging for parking but elites can get free parking (or free internet) as an amenity. At several Fairfields and full service Marriotts I've stayed at, I've gotten rooms with jacuzzi's in them - never used them, though. There seems, in the past, to be plenty of variation between properties in offerings. With Marriott, bottom line, the product is always good. Anything extra is just that, extra and unexpected. I, for one, am happy to keep it that way. There will never be a corporate directive requiring properties to offer what only some do now - better to not set any absolutes. And isn't that what most folks are complaining about? Corporate "suggesting" that properties not offer anything above the minimum requirements?
