For future stays, you are suppose to be OFFERED a choice and not just assigned a choice. So if they have not mentioned anything on your day of arrival push for the $s. It's their rule and they should follow it! |
Very helpful thread. I hit ~100 marriott stays a few months ago, moved to hilton and just Hilton Diamond for the year, and was looking to see if it was worth coming back to Marriott to hit PP at the end of the triple bonus HH is doing. Apparently not. What an opportunity lost for Marriott, really, I can't be alone...
I have issues with SPG, so not sure I want to spend the rest of the year trying to earn my way up the ladder there starting as a gold. Honestly, I get a lot more upgrades at Hilton than I did at Marriott anyway, and most of their properties are updating to be more contemporary, I guess I stay with Hilton a bit more... Of course there is the rollover... LOL |

Edit: The BW promo just ended... but still... nothing wrong with a little variety |
What does it take to stay platinum premier?
Any public info, speculation or insider details on what it takes to stay a PP?
I made my 75 nights this year, wondering if I should pile on MR or look to get status with another brand as well? We can save the discussion on whether or not one would want to stay PP for another thread... |
perhaps you should post here and read this thread:

Wish I knew as well, unfortunately that info or even heresay seems to be nonexistant. I have no idea why I got it last year but guessing that my 75 nights this year aren't going to cut it. The only thing I have going is high credit card spend (which I believe is a part).

seems to go the top 2-3% of total nights stayed..............

We can save the discussion on whether or not one would want to stay PP for another thread... There are only two benefits: A free WSJ App for iphone and supposed one special number to call. I had the App for one day before deleting, not a WSJ subscription but a pretty useless app. As for one number, it is hit or miss. As I posted on another thread, the last three calls were answered by someone who didn't know even basic info and just gave me stupid answers. I have seen nothing special at hotels vs Platinum. And in fact a few hotels are not sure that PP gets at least same as Platinum. In my humble opinion, PP is one of the worse ideas by Marriott. I would much rather be P and have no expectations, then make it PP to discovery it is nothing. If you are going to have another level, at least provide some value. |
I could not agree more with rthib. PP has been a large disappointment for me this year, In fact I have collected the "arrival gift guarantee" two times in my last three stays. I rarely had this problem as a plat. For the first time, I have more stays with SPG due specifically to PP letdowns.

My experience as a PP has been different. I agree the phone number has become hit or miss on the quality of the agent. Still most of the time I do get a good agent for the few things I call in for. I do most of my transactions via the web.
Where I have noticed a difference is in my suite upgrade percentage. I am at %80+ suite upgrades without asking. Currently I mainly stay at FI and CY due to budget constraints. With the few full service stays I have had, I have a similar sucess rate. So overall I am getting better treatment than when I was vanilla Platinum. Ironically my suite upgrade rate during leisure stays with my family is much lower (even for 1 night in transit stays). Bottom line, I am satisfied for now. With my current stay rate, I expect I will drop back to vanilla platinum next year. We will see if that changes how I am treated. YMMV, Jon |

Anyone have details on this undocumented level of the elite program? I was notified this last week that I made it by the hotel and just curious if I can expect any other perks outside of the typical platinum program.
Thanks. My biggest enjoyment is that my room is always ready! Enjoy |

there are a host of things you will see. I have been one for four years now. It first means that you are in the top 2 or 3% of Marriott users around the world. Best rooms, suite upgrades free, if available ( i have gotten top suites and then simple larger rooms all depending on the hotel and the availability).

unless you're a constantly returning guest at the same prop, why would this be true?
(now, I can follow 100 times at the same prop but 1-time at 100- different props)

Hotels will typically love to impress any guest, let alone a platinum.

when I return to a prop that I've been many times before, the staff already my name and usher me up to the Exec Lounge for a speedy checkin while others get our bags to the room.............I'm usually met by the Rms Mgr or Asst GM (and sometimes by the GM) who welcome us back to the prop...
.....we're asked about dinner reservations, etc., provided a welcome drink and escorted to our room/suite..............yes, this type of personal attention makes us welcome but I can't say this type of treatment has ever been extended to us at a prop we haven't been to before (even when the Rms Mgr/Asst GM of our general abode sends the GM notice that we're arriving)..... regardless of status.....

Because it can make people repeat guests. Do you repeatedly stay at the same property because they treat you like crap? If so, you're in a small club.
