The platinum premier used to upgrade to best in house including the Presidential Suite. Lately it has gotten the same perks at the regular platinum with "no upgrade to suites" per the brochure that came with the card this year and per hotel staff?

I don't think it ever got 'best in house' upgrades. It's really just the same as Platinum, with a couple of extra benefits.

Which I have yet to see (whatever they may be.)

The suite policy for elites has not changed at all. PP never had a policy regarding suites that differred from the G/P policy.

The policy is not "no suites" the policy is that they *must* upgrade you to best room available excluding suites. Any hotel is free to upgrade any guest to a suite if they choose, but they must upgrade G/P/PP to the best room that is not a suite.

That's the rule, anyway.

BeatCal Apr 1, 2012 2:28 pm

Up until this year, I always got upgraded to either the Pres Suite or onedown.

This year I have been told that they don't do suites "."

VickiSoCal Apr 1, 2012 4:30 pm

Was this at a particular property that you stayed at frequently? Because *always* getting a suite was never typical for PP across the chain. Realistically it can't be, there's not always going to be availability, or they might get slammed with several or more PP's in a night, etc.

My boss is PP and I have traveled with him 6-7 times this year with him. He has gotten a suite upgrade at all five of the Marriott properties we stayed at together.

Not so much for this lowly platinum though.

megtravels Apr 1, 2012 5:30 pm

i would say that for the 2-3 years i was PP i got more suite upgrades...at least 75% of stays...maybe more...

i haven't had many stays this year, and aside from one CY (which i actually cancelled due to their reno) i have gotten exactly ZERO suite upgrades....(the CY upgraded me ahead and i saw it on my account, but decided that i'd prefer to NOT be in a dust bowl)

BeatCal Apr 2, 2012 4:55 am

so it sounds like most of us are having that experiance. I still get it at the ones I stay at enought that I know their names and they mine, but not system wide anymore. Too bad.

VickiSoCal Apr 2, 2012 7:26 am

Maybe I'm missing something but I haven't seen a single person other than BEATCAL on this thread say PP is getting fewer upgrades than they used to.

megtravels says that when she was PP she got lots of suite upgrades, now that she's only Plat she doesn't.

apodo77 says that this year (I assume meaning Jan-March of 2012) his boss who is PP has gotten many suite upgrades while apodo77 who is only Plat has not.

DYKWIA says PP never got much more than Plat.

Sure I always got the suite UG at a property that knew me. Traveling around the world with a variety of properties, no so much.

This thread pretty much catalogs what PP's 'get' at various properties, as you will see it's never been near 'always'.

And then there is the latest thread that discusses the 2012 'benefits'.

I'll say it. I've seen a dramatic decline in upgrades. I'm about 20% for CL rooms and about 50% on room type for reservations that show "your room type is guaranteed". I don't bother enforcing the Elite Guarantee, however, if I did I'm sure I would have banked $1k or so this year.

VickiSoCal Apr 2, 2012 9:11 am

Enforce it.

I don't think in 6 years of G or P my husband has ever not gotten a king bed (at hotels that have them, I know some city/EU hotels have a queen or a double instead) when travelling alone or with me and we've always gotten two double or two queens when travelling with the kids. That's one thing I would be persnicty about. Concierge Level, ehh, never saw the big deal with that.

Been a PP for several years now ... Last year I had 250+ nights, all domestic travel in mostly full service Hotels. I was put on the CL most stays but only upgraded to a Suite 4 or 5 times. The year before, it's seems as if it was similar. Most of the time (virtually every time) I am recognized as a "thank you for being a Platinum member" ... My advise to Corporate would be to either make PP "really" worth something or do away with it completely. As it is now they are doing more harm from a PR perspective than good (IMO).
