Higher status than PP

Saw someone at checkin with a PPO label. Asked checkin clerk and he said there are about a dozen and they are higher than PP. Always get President's Suite. Sweet

I've been a Marriott Platinum member for several years, but this year was made a Platinum Premier. I was very excited as the Seattle Hotel I've been staying at for the past few months has never put me on the Concierge level. I thought that now I would finally get it. I was wrong. In fact they put me on the 21st floor which is actually the lowest I've ever been.

Property: Renaissance Seattle Hotel
Length of stay (repeat stays?): 3 nights
Greeting: We have your Platinum status on file.
Room upgrade:No, but they did put me in a corner room which is supposed to be better.
Suite upgrade:No
Special requests filled:N/A

Platinum Premier - Husband, Platinum - Wife - Interesting Story

Hi Everyone,

I know many of us on here are trying to figure out how its decide who becomes a platinum premier. I thought I would share my story and experience.

Some quick background info. Husband and I are both plats - have been for 4+ years. He has 400+ nights the past 4 years and I have 750+ nights. We have been traveling together for the past 1.5 years.

My husband and I both travel for work (for the same company) and because we often work from the hotel our company puts us up in 2 rooms so we can work from our rooms during the day or late into the evening. In the past year my husbands and my business stays mirror each others - same dates checked in and out of Marriott's - same room rates, etc (no additional charges as our long term stays are mostly at SHS and Fairfields). This is approximately 150 nights this past year.

Because I keep track of all of our points and pretty much make most of the travel plans - I make all of the personal reservations in my name. This includes atleast 20+ nights at FS Marriotts this year. So, I have 20 more nights than my husband this year - and 20 more nights of revenue at FS Marriotts.

We'll I logged onto his account this past weekend and he is now a platinum premier! I was quite surprised! A couple colleagues have encouraged me to call corporate - not really sure about this. I have read lots of threads on this forum of folks trying to "crack the case" and thought I would share my story! Maybe I will make it next year - maybe not - no biggie either way!

100 nights

Plat Premier is when you reach 100 nights in a year. You get 20% off of dinning in the full service marriott hotels. I have had one hotel give me me points and an amenity other than that I see no other changes for just plain Premier. I was told buy the Premier desk that they think PM members get first dibs on upgrades. Anyway if you have over 100 nights you should have this status just for the nice black card.
Hopes this helps.

NOT TRUE -- PP is reserved for the top 3% of all Plat members and is based on nights stayed and revenue generated. The factors are "top secret" and MR has never revealed those numbers.

Yeppers, those "top secret" things can't be divulged or they kill you. I've been PP for 5 years running now and all I get when I ask is that I'm in the top 3%. How that's calculated is beyond me, as I tend to stay CY or SHS for the majority of my stays while I know many that are out on the road as much as me and they stay at FS properties and are Plat.

Maybe it's because I when I vacation, I stay at the FS Caribbean Resorts 3 or more times per year on paid stays rather than use points for the room...

I rarely redeem points for stays...I get the gift cheques ($1000/135k points) and "pay" for the room with those. That is like cash to the properties, so I earn points on that. Don't know if that helps in the tally of $$ spent, but perhaps...

Perhaps tenure (I've been in the program since the '80s) total nights (over 1200), time as Plat or PP, lifetime points (over 3MM now) count...oh wait, that's for lifetime Plat... see, they'd have to kill you if they tell you.

This is a really cool/funny story! I love it. Adds to the overall mystery of how the heck anything gets done over there. Good luck!

ChiTownClaire, do you both have MR Premier Visa cards? Does your husband charge more on his MR Visa card?

How about other years? Have you always accumulated more points and nights than your husband?

Other than that, this is odd. Last year, they made a few errors on PP at the beginning of the year and ended up revoking some and adding others.

I was actually going to mention that. We both have MR Premier Visa Cards. I use mine more - maybe $1,000/month. He will maybe spend $500 every 2-3 months on his. We always pay are balances off in full (not sure if that makes a difference). They have been sending out those targeted offers - 10 transactions over 3 months or spend so much over 3 months to get a free night or some extra points. I participated in an easy one last fall - he didn't (he isn't the least bit interested in keeping after hotel points).

I have accumulated probably 2 times as many points as he has. We had our wedding at Camelback in 2009 and it was planned by me - I gained quite a few points for that. I'd say I have earned around 1,000,000 points.

I have always been more of a fan of Marriott so since we have started traveling together we stay more at Marriott's. In 2008 I had 336 nights at a Marriott - he had 92. Then in 2009 our nights started aligning more and we split the nights more between Marriott/Hyatt/Hilton.

I'm not sure if tenure in the program has anything to do with it - but I still have him beat in that category at 8 years.

He does have me beat at age - he is 31. :)

And thanks for everyone's feedback - I like hearing everyone's insights!

Claire-
Maybe Marriott is very old fashioned and thinks only a MAN should be a PP!?

Just kidding of course. I would bring it up with corporate FOR SURE. I think they made a mistake. There is no way to justify this. You should both be PP.

I'd call over and ask - please keep us updated on this one.

My mother was quick to come to this conclusion! Haha!

The only think I can think of is there are probably different people reviewing the accounts and some must be more lenient than others. So, maybe I should make the call? I know the "perks" aren't that much more than platinum's - but I am interested to know (if they are willing to disclose) where the inconsistencies are.

 incorrect.

100 nights Plat Premier.

I have just called the PM desk and it has been verified twice by them that it take 100 nights to get PM. I am sure everyone is right about the 3% as it sounds more realistic than 100 nights.

As I am new PM as of this year and see no additional benifits over Platinum does anyone know what these benifits are and have they experienced any difference? I also do about 35 stays a year with HHONORS and I am thinking of chenging to all Marriott. Thanks.
