Property: FI - Kannapolis, NC
Length of stay (repeat stays?): 2 nights, 1st time
Greeting: NOTHING!
Room upgrade:No.
Suite upgrade:No.
Special requests filled:Profile requests high floor, received 2nd of 3 floors. This hotel was nearly empty.
Other:I did eventually collect on the FI platinum arrival gift guarantee ($25) but it took several calls and some education of the desk clerk and mgr. Finally had MR rep call the hotel to explain what their rules were. I have collected on this 3 times now in 200+ stays.
This property is a dump and should lose the Marriott name.

Property: FI- CLT - Arrowood
Length of stay (repeat stays?): 2 nights, 1st time
Greeting: "I'm going to need you to select points or amenity"
Room upgrade:No.
Suite upgrade:No.
Special requests filled:N/A
Other:I think the clerk thought she was clever but I don't really care what she needs of me.

Property: FI- Augusta, GA
Length of stay (repeat stays?): 4 nights
Greeting: Would you like points or a snack?
Room upgrade:No.
Suite upgrade:yes, after I requested, he changed rooms.
Special requests filled:N/A

Property: RI - Deptford, NJ
Length of stay (repeat stays?): 5 nights, have stayed there a couple times before
Greeting: Would you like points or something from the market?
Room upgrade:No.
Suite upgrade:No.
Special requests filled:N/A
Other:I had a maintenance request to fix the sagging shower curtain rod. The curtain reached the bottom of the tub. I called the first morning I was there and they never fixed it. I got no maid service one day. I called the desk and they said I must have had sign the do not disturb sign otherwise they can't understand why it wouldn't be cleaned. They did bring me some clean towels. This is the sort of service I have come to expect in the Philly/NJ area.

I had a funny experience here though. I had the front desk send a local fax and as I waited for the confirmation, I noticed a sign welcoming all the elite members. There was one plat but no space for PP and I was not mentioned. I asked, out of curiosity, why I was not listed. The clerk looked me up and apologized and offered me a market item. I was not after compensation. The next day, the sign said welcome to all our elite members and didn't list any names.

Property: RI-Brownsville, TX
Length of stay (repeat stays?): 5 nights, 1st stay
Greeting: Would you like points or a market item?
Room upgrade:No.

Special requests filled:N/A
Other:I have stayed over 100 nights at the CY - Harlingen, TX and finally decided to drive back and forth to BRO. It is worth the trip. This is not an exceptional RI but the CY is exceptionally bad.

I just wanted to provide a quick update to anyone who might be interested....

I contacted the Marriott Concierge. They were very helpful in researching what might be the major differences in our accounts. Basically they said that he has been a platinum longer than I have. I would have to disagree with this - and he would have to disagree with this - but nonetheless this is what they tell me. They report that if I keep on the path of staying as many nights that I am that I "should" be PP next year. Yippee!

I have to admit that when I started thinking about this I really didn't care too much about it - but it really started to bother me the more I thought about it. And when I talked to my colleagues - most of them are PP's! So, I am feeling quite left out and I would be lying if I said I am going full steam ahead - staying at Marriott's to become a PP. I will probably stay the minimum at Marriott's (my rollover nights already requalified me for platinum) and focus on Hyatt's for now until my I get back together with Marriott. I think we just broke up. :(

So, are you saying that the Marriott Concierge had it wrong; that he has not been a platinum longer than you?

Well, we have been traveling for the past 5 years. Prior to that he wasn't even a rewards member (as far as he can remember and if he was he wasn't very active) and I was. I was atleast a silver if not a gold as we did all our personal travel on my account. So, we are besides ourselves with how Marriott's records reflect his account with more years as platinum.

Marriott Concierge has been nothing but professional and polite and I believe that they did everything in their power they could.

PP - Respect shown only when paying, not redeeming

First time poster, so please show tolerance. Perhaps this has been covered elsewhere and I've missed it but this seems like an appropriate spot to post this.
My continuing resentment about MR is that Marriott pays respect to my Plat. status only when I'm a paying guest. (This is mostly in evidence by occasional upgrades to suites, but in a clear dilution of privilege, those upgrades have definitely been coming far fewer in the last 2 years so I'll have to see if my recently becoming PP changes that).
What really irritates me is that when it comes to point redemption, I'm competing for the same limited available rooms with silver members. By example, I have no priority for booking Aruba over XMAS week over the Silver Level person who has stayed only 2-3 nights per year over 25 years and finally has enough points for their vacation. They get equal status with platinum members in competing for the few available rooms. (The no blackout rule hasn't had any impact to this.) I'm sick and tired of having to plan vacations a full year out.
Any one have any conflicting information about this that would temper my continued outrage?

Member since program inception (1982?), Lifetime Platinum 5-6 years, PP-2011 first time.

Welcome to Flyertalk. As you are new, just to let you know that the general etiquette here and at similar sites is to stay on topic in threads. Since you post is not related to the theme of the thread, you had the option of using the search feature in order to find an appropriate thread to post to or, in the unlikely event there was no appropriate thread, you could have chosen to start your own. This thread is not a general complaint thread in re Marriott, but the OP posted as to a very specific situation.

I don't understand. Inasmuch as you say he has not been platinum longer, what is Marriott's explanation as to why their records show different? Also, it's nice for the MC to be polite, but if what you're saying is accurate, I don't understand why the problem hasn't been satisfactorily resolved.

It's possible you & hubby remember incorrectly on when you made Plat, which is different from how long you've been in the program. With 4-5 yrs here, it should be fairly easy to count nights from 5 years ago from online records and see who actually made it to Plat first, -in- a calendar year. Maybe some stays got credited in hubby's name instead of yours.

If it turns out you really are correct, I'd suggest you give 'em another call and request a recheck of -your- account. Who knows, maybe MH goofed up. One thing for sure I've picked up from Ftalk is that if you don't get a correct response, keep calling back until you do :)

It's also possible they screwed up, put you hold, and came up with this crap as something to tell you over the phone.

If you're in the 3% club, keep hitting 'em until they finally realize that.

Property: Renaissance Worthington Fort Worth
Length of stay (repeat stays?): 5 days (repeat)
Greeting: Welcome to the Renaissance
Room upgrade: No (not even to the club level)
Suite upgrade: No
Special requests filled: None requested
Other: I have been traveling to this hotel for years and I have not ONCE been upgraded to a suite. This trip, I asked at check-in about the Club Level, she said there were no rooms available. I was early, like 1:00pm and I told her I didn't mind working up in the business center for a few hours until cleaning was complete, she said nope, no rooms were going to open. I said, "really, not one room", she said nope !! :) Small note: Of course I did have access to the floor and the evening spread ... Not too good, the quality seems to be on the decline. On the positive side, the staff was real pleasant.
