I guess this is my year to be blessed by Marriott. A few months ago received a new card in the mail that said Lifetime Platinum. Just signed in tonight and my profile lists me as Platinum Premier. Plus I received my 35000 bonus points today for Megabonus. And I'm just a pretty ordinary Joe. We'll see what these new statuses bring.

I thought i might have been a loner in this view, but on a different thread, it seems a few others had considered it.

Anyone else out there request a return to Platinum in lieu of the PP tier?

Thought i'd ask.

I agree that PP is useless for me. I don't care about status nights/rollover (already PLT for life) and still PP is worthless. Marriott should add some real benefits to PP like confirmed Suite Upg or Travel package for 3/4 nights to make this valuable. The way it is now, it's useless for me and I am seriously considering taking my business somewhere else. Don't get me wrong, I love Marriott and they have always been good to me but having a Top status with no tangible benefit is silly.

I am furious re: lounge closings, no more weekend breakfast coupons, etc.

First of all, Congrats to new PP members.

Now the reality is, I am more frustrated with Marriott after becoming PP. Recognition is poor and trust me, no one cares at front desk when you check in.

Marriott should have a consistent policy when you are Plat Prem for upgrades and they should Upg PP to suite as well. Not cool when a hotel tells you that they don't give suites as upgrades. PP is hardest to achieve among all hotel programs and still has no real benefit.

That's so true. I cannot believe Marriott makes this PP almost impossible to achieve and when you get it, nothing changes. My advice to all new PPs, don't get your hopes high. Nothing is going to change. It's upto check in clerk to decide what kind of upgrade or suite upgrade you will get if any.

I sent a note requesting a "downgrade" to receive more benefits (rollover nights).

New York Marriott Marquis - Platinum Premiere Benefits?

I'm thinking of booking a stay there, and wondering what benefits Platinum Premiere's get. Do they normally give a suite? Or just concierge level? Weekend breakfast? How big are the suites? Can we fit 5 people easily?

Seems like they increased the number of PP to weed out some rollover nights.

Same as the Platinum benefits.

At this hotel don't even expect to be on the CC floor itself but you may get one above or one below (Keep in mind that this hotel has lots of elites & people who pay for the CC). If you do get a nearby floor it's quicker to take the stairs than the elevator.

The hotel is known for having the largest standard rooms in NYC (a low base) but even 4 adults don't even easily fit in most hotel rooms.

If you'd like a suite you probably have to book it, or nearby there's the DoubleTree Suites that has some rooms with two beds and a queen sleeper sofa (rated for four, but technically could accommodate 6).

Like last year, I think you will see some folks who think that they just earned PP lose their status come early February when they get all of the IT glitches straightened out. I think that you will also see the correct number of rollover nights in your accounts in the next few weeks. I don't expect the rollover nights to happen again. This is just my opinion and based on what happened last year.

On a side note, I've been PP for two years and out of more than 200 stays, it only made a difference 3 times. I always get welcomed as a Platinum and seldom get the mention of PP status. I have gotten to know a few of managers at hotels I frequent and ask them about what they know about and do above and beyond for PP. The answer is that they always "bend over backwards" to do whatever they need to for a PP and that, as far as they know, they are the top folks in the program.

I'm a newly minted PP. (I hope I keep it!) I lost 25 rollover nights (not that I need them, being lifetime Plat already). I'm looking forward to seeing if it makes a difference being PP rather than merely P.

I am also considering making the request to be downgraded. In addition to loosing my 2009 rollover nights, I also lost 25 nights from 2010 as they upgraded me AFTER year end yet used 100 nights as the threshhold. Although the status did make a suite available after being told they were sold out, did not indear me to MR.

I'm going to wait and see how MR handles the rollover debacle and maybe a couple more stays to decide if PP is a real status or just a shell game.

Platcomike Jan 11, 2011 9:01 am

I am now PLT for life so rollover nights and all that don't really matter now. If they did, I would ask to be downgraded for the additional rollover. IF they don't fix the 2009 rollover issue, I think I would reconsider working towards Life status at all.

The only tangible benefit I have had from two years as a Plat Prem was a few times using the 20% food benefit in 2010 (which is a hassle because they always seem to need to find a manager to approve it) and once when I was told that "for PP's you get both the points and amenity". A minor benefit but appreciated.

In the meantime, the regular benefits have been depleted at an increasing rate. Most of my trips include Saturday night so I hardly ever get to use the lounge or get a free breakfast on Sunday, even though the rates are the same for the weekend nights of my stay (usually). That should really be an additional benefit for all Plats, not just PP's.

If you can't get on the concierge lounge floor, ask for a corner room. They are a little bigger than the standard room and I would prefer one of them on a floor + or - 2 floors from the concierge lounge rather than a standard room on the concierge lounge floor.

Looking at the benefits list online at MR.com the platinum premiere benefits are identical to the platinum benefits. I read in one of these threads a 20% f&b discount but don't see that listed on the website. can anyone clarify what benefits are unique to PP (or is it just that you're first on the list for upgrade over a plat)?

Last year in Platinum Premier package, there was a card good for 20% restaurants at Marriotts and Renaissance Hotels. YOu could use this as many times as you wanted. This expired on 12/31 and was not good at resorts. There was a also a card that got you free golf club rentals at Marriott courses. I stayed about 100 nights in Marriotts last year and didn't use the restaurant card or golf club card once. And, in the two years I have been PP, It has only been acknowledged 3-5 times.
