My Choice:
SGS/ Méridien SURAWONG tie for first place in service.
Plaza Athenee has nice rooms but the service and club lounge have been better in the past.
Westin has the smallest lounge but the best offerings, service is consistent as well.

St. REGIS offers the best upgrades/ rooms. Breakfast was disappointing though.

I avoid ROS, W, Lm suvarnabhumi
Can I ask why you avoid the ROS? We (wife and I) are planning trip to Bangkok, and were thinking ROS because on a past trip at a different hotel really enjoyed being riverfront. So very interested in opinion regarding it.

As a local who did staycations (all stays on my own dime) in bkk. (I live in Sukhumvit area.)

My pick are as follow. (In order)

1. St. Regis - best spg hotel in town.
2. Plaza athenee and SGS
3. W bangkok and le meridien bangkok.
4. Westin
5. ROS
6. Aloft
7. Four points (my least favorite)

Have you stayed at the Hyatt? If so, where would you put it on the list?

How about the Westin on the golf course that's vaguely near the airport?

Think you are referring to Le Meridien.

The location on the riverfront is not great for doing things not on the riverfront. The rooms are tired and for plats the lack of buffet breakfast is a big miss compared to the competition in BKK. The lounge has a nice view and the staff were good.

Depends on the budget and area. I would agree on most of this list in terms of Hard product. As many of these hotels in recent times have had category upgrades they find themselves in a position of trying to charge rates that are not sustainable. I often find BRGs for most of these hotels except StR and 4P. The scale of these BRGs often lead me to a different list based on value for money. PA, Westin and W are regularly had for bargain values. I see Aloft as the place to stay first night in or last night out.

Yes i just checked out from GH erawan on 23 apr.

Overall a very pleasant stay.

However, imo, i will place it between the 2nd and 3rd place on my list.

Refer to le meridien suvarnabhumi, i've never stayed there, so no comment about it. No plan either. It's kind of out of the way, even for the airport.

it's about 5-10 minutes walk to centralworld, depending on how fast you walk.

for siam paragon, i suggest you to take the skytrain to siam station (siam paragon) instead. it's just 1 station away from the ratchadamri station (st.regis).

What do they do for breakfast at the ROS, then - Club Lounge?

Hmmm...maybe I gotta think some more about this...lot of thread to go through here but a lot of good info I'm sure.

Yes club lounge. Whilst it may be adequate it is light years away from the buffets the rest supply. STR, W, 4P and Aloft all require the forfeiture of the welcome amenity the rest dont. ROS does not give the option. I would prefer the Aloft or 4P breakfast over ROS. In other respects ROS treats you well with upgrades and lounge but they seem to target a different market. If you are keen on the riverside location I suggest pay for breakfast, if not there is better elsewhere.

I have no probs with ROS. I like the riverfront...and I have always received suites with river view. I like waking up watching the river and boats passing by.

Two pools, one which is quite chaotic, with kids, etc. And another, more quiet one.

Service has always been great. I like the lounge, great views and great offerings, cocktails, and a wide selection of food - both in the morning, during the afternoon and during the evening. More than sufficient for me.

Ubers are plentiful and cheap, and absolutely recommended.

Having said that, parts of the hotel is quite tired.

Staying there again next month - quite easy to find BRG's....my next stay is 2000 baht plus taxes.

Cant really complain.

I agree. We choose a hotel based on what we plan to do in Bangkok. On one of our visits we wanted to explore up and down the river so the ROS was perfect in that situation, despite the rooms being extremely tired.

The two pools are enjoyable for some reason. Laying there by the pool and watching the river activity is pretty cool.

If we plan to stay around Asoke/Sukhumvit then we choose either the SGS/aloft depending on price. Westin/4P for some reason aren't on our list anymore. We use to rave about the 4P when it first opened but not anymore and the Westin, just didn't really like it.

If we can't decide what to do when we're in town then the St Regis is for us.

We haven't stayed at the W yet, despite liking the W brand (the newer properties that is).

Just some forwarding planning from my end;

I will not re qualify for Platinum this year so thus lose it on 28 February 2017.

If I check in 28th, and stay 5 or so nights (checking out 5th March 2017). Would most of the Bangkok hotels extend my Platinum benefits for the entire stay? Thinking of St Regis or SGS for this purpose.
