Back at hotel after many years, and more than impressed with changes - easily my favourite for Frankfurt from now on:

- Upgrade to business exec room (no suite, but very large & well-appointed, so very happy)
- Staff helpful, warm & welcoming across the board (front desk, bellman, lounge attendant, as well as literally everyone encountered in hallways). It was a long time ago so memory may be a bit hazy, but as far as I can tell a marked difference with Sheraton times
- As mentioned by previous posters, the lounge is really good: drinks & basic food in evenings (also second the salty-remark on the soup :-)), and breakfast simply superb for a lounge (pretty much full spread, and possibility to order e.g. eggs separately, cooked to wish).

In short, major thumbs up !

Also stayed at LM Parkhotel (my previous favourite) twice in past weeks: still very good, suite upgrade on one occasion, friendly staff ... read: all reasons why it was my favourite to begin with & believe one still can't go wrong with LM. Just relative ranking changed I guess: Westin clearly improved its game. If suite upgrades are a determining factor, guess LM still gives the best odds (far more available in inventory). Other than that: Westin at par or notch above LM on most aspects, with the new lounge being a hefty joker.

Used this property on May 30, upgraded to 6th floor multi level suite. Very nice, 2 floors, staircase, 2 bathrooms, 2 flat screens, welcome gift and Bulgari ammenities.

Lounge in great shape, nice view over the hotel bar. Wide selection of Food, drinks and newspapers.

My only complaint is the large number of airline crew in the lobby in the morning. At checkout time, the airline crews were socialising with each other in the area meant for the reception desk queue, which made it difficult for other guests to access the check out.

Cheers

Do my chances of upgrading to one of those suites decrease if I'm booking c/p?? I just booked a standard c/p room for the end of November... What are my chances??? I sure hope they're good, cuz it's the last night of a 2-week honeymoon

They get a fair number of plats there and also depends if there's a Messe/Fair going on. I wouldn't get my hopes up.

Love this hotel. Kudos to Timo and Vanessa. Had a great 6 night stay back in May.

Staying here right now,.... not really a good experience...
The staff in the lobby not nice.... i dont feel welcome here...
No free water in room, no information about platinum benefits, no upgrade ( i can live with that ), only recognition: You want the 500 points ? .....
I had to ask twice for updating the keycards to access the lounge.
The staff there is nice indeed but the selection of food/beverage is not on par with hilton/marriott lounge in frankfurt...
Marriott was sold tonight. I booked a room in Westin Franfurt again for this weekend and i'm really thinking about cancelling...

I asked the staff where i can find the Executive Lounge, he did not understand my question ( in german ) and responded with "HÄÄÄÄ ???" i asked again and he showed me the Cigar Lounge "Here".....

I'm surprised by your experience but I do remember a few of the front desk people being a little impersonal.

That said, I have little interaction with the front desk once checked in. Timo/Vanessa are great in the lounge. The lounge doesn't compare with Asia lounges but it is quite good compared to the EU and US. The lounge won't replace dinner but it's enough to get you happily through your Pils, sparkling, or other.

Which Marriott are you comparing to? Messe? I'm sorry but the WG Frankfurt is clearly superior though Champs Bar in the hotel and Jimmy's (nearby) can be fun if you've got a lot of colleagues around.

There is only 1 Marriott in Frankfurt City i think. The food at their lounge is excellent.. And the last time i stayed at the hilton fra there was filet-steak in the evening at the lounge.

The soup at Westin was nice and staff in executive lounge was also nice.
They close at 10pm but food was still available until 10pm really good.
Checkout was good experience too. Very nice guy at check-out.

"Upgrade" was to a deluxe room. 500-points and lounge access.

Rooms do have wireless internet access.

Free "Platinum" package is 512 download. Platinum upgrade to 1,024 download is 10 Euros a day. Thought Platinums were entitled to the highest download available at no charge? Apparently not here.

Nice enough hotel.

Nice enough hotel.
Never had a problem getting the highest speed for free. Go to the front desk and ask for a manager.

My experiences here have always been small problems and less than friendly front desk staff. However, the management has been great! A quick word with them normally has the manager greeting my by name every time I walk in and out of the hotel. I really think the 5 minutes it's going to take to correct this problem will be worth it for you.

Considering staying here vs Sheraton FRA though my flight arrives at 5p and departs at 1p next day. If lounge is open with food until 10p would be worth the trip into the city, and hot eggs with breakfast also a plus. Special sale at E131 is most attractive (though not participating in the 4thQ promo) vs no-credit Pts+$s.

- I did not stay in Sheraton FRA so I cannot compare but I stayed twice this Aug in the Westin with my family. Hotel and lounge are fine but nothing special. Was "upgraded" to a larger "exec" room but no suite. "Sorry, no suite upgrade is available (while www.spg.com showed 2 bookable suites 10 min before the check in), ... I see you are using internet 131 Eu rate..." Extra bed for your your son? - that would be 39 Eu (declined). Rooms were large but did not have enough furniture or decorations, so there was an empty feel. Drain in the bathtub did not work and the hotel was unable to fix it. Extra blanket in the room had some obvious stains.
Lounge provides some minimalistic hot food in the evening. On one of the nights, the menu was a soup, young roasted potatoes, and chocolate cakes. Cold offering included a cheese plate, fined chopped veggies, and salad leafs. Beverages included soft drinks, beer, red and white wine of 2010, and German sparkling. No hard liquor.
Breakfast is O.K. but the spread is much less than the restaurant offerings of this Westin or two of the Sheratons I stayed in Frankfurt. My son ordered an omelet and commented that "perhaps, they didn't have ingredients" to make it as he ordered. We were told to have a breakfast in the lounge only whereas Hilton suggested to use their restaurant "because the choice is better".
Overall, this Westin is O.K. to get a drink and some cheese in the evening and morning breakfast. But is does not appear to be anything special.

The lounge is actually very nice and offers, in typical European fashion, a bit more quality and not that much quantity. Made to order eggs on top of a typical continental breakfast incl. sparkling wine and very high quality teas are a nice touch. E.g. the Hyatt Regency Mainz charges for eggs in their Regency Club for breakfast

For dinner, quite often, the soup alone is really worth it. In typical European fashion, once again, the focus is on quality and the afternoon service is intended to serve as an appetizer and not as a full dinner, which is often the case in the US.

Suites are very hard to come by, the usual bunch of consultants and bankers stay there very frequently and the quantity of suites in the pool is not that high anyway, not to mention that people book suites there regularly as well.

Solid chances to get one, if you check in on Friday or Saturday with increasing odds for a Sunday check in. On working days, I would not count on it. The junior suites are very nice, though, Walter Knoll furniture, Bulgari toiletries, roughly twice the size of a room.

Coming back to Shareholder's original question, it is a 15 minute trip on the tram, which can be quite full during rush hour. Considering the covenience of the Airport Sheraton, this would be my preferred option, however last week ( due to the BTT rate ) the price difference was around Euro 100 in favour of the Westin Grand. C&P usually gives you a really good value for both hotels.

Thanks for your comments. Since I now have a prepaid rate at the Westin I will go into the city and stay there. I have stayed at the Sheraton FRA and it was quite nice for an airport hotel that didn't feel like it was an airport hotel.

As for the evening spread, I have never found US properties offering enough to sustain one as a dinner alternative, at least not if one if not a vegetarian/vegan! I will have come off a flight from ICN, in F, so a heavy meal is not what I will be after at the hotel.

- If we are talking quality then the Westin should consider serving at least better wines than the 2010 vintage they offered this August. Soup was O.K. but not better than available at my local supermarket (Harris Teeter in Raleigh, NC). I wouldn't take Hyatt Regency Mainz as a reference point - the latter hotel is not quite up to the standards including a rather pathetic Diamond amenity offering.
I agree that it is very nice to have an SPG property in Frankfurt having a lounge open 7 days a week. In my view, it is quite adequate for local standards but it is certainly short of being a spectacular.

Modern hotel in one of the best locations in Frankfurt. I stayed a few weeks back and even though they were packed due to the World Cup, excellent service at check-in and especially the executive lounge.

The lounge was terrific, especially by Western standards, with a solid spread in the evening and eggs and pancakes to order in the AM, along with the typical buffet spread. Fridge was full all day with soft drinks.

I also stayed at the Sheraton airport during that trip and also a fantastic hotel with a super exec lounge and terrific staff as well.
