Are they referring to the fixed 200 VGCs in the dark navy packaging, the ones that are periodically fee-free at Staples? If so, I thought for the past few yrs these had been capped at a max of 99/swipe at WM? Could anyone please clarify?
The ones in the dark navy packaging sold at the Staples near me have always been yellow --- I guess you can call them gold ---- and have BIN of 4358 80. Like you, I thought they had a $99/swipe limit. Who knew? I am attaching a screenshot of what someone posted about this back when I was starting out with buying MOs at WM. Perhaps it is different with Discover checking loading? The screenshot is from April 2023. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...6af8f41473.png |

@Curb71 writes gold VGC 435880 which most likely means the color of the VGCs themselves. They need to clarify.

It's almost like gold and yellow are similar and the BIN matches. Why not just try swiping for more than 99 like I did and if it works, it works.
I want to have as little drama as possible doing this. |

If it doesn't work, what do you tell the cashier? Do they have to do something on their end?

If it doesn't work then I try an amount that's less or a different card that will work. It's not like the card is bricked.
Let's say it doesn't work. Does she have to restart the process from the beginning? That's the hassle I want to avoid. This makes them suspicious. |

The cashier asks me how much I want to load, so I say $190.

Unfortunately, yes. That's why I started at 99 and worked my way up over the months.
Thanks. |

I don't really see a lot of DP regarding the SS MCGC, so I figured I'd add one.
I accidentally purchased a $500 SS MCGC (vs. SS VGC) issued by Pathward, serviced by Incomm. Activated the card on the website per the instructions. A few days later went to our local WM (we can only load Discover at the CS/MC now). After I told the lady I wanted to load money to Discover Debit/Checking, the first odd thing was she asked for my phone # and then name (first name only), which is new for me. Then BAU Inserted Discover, entered Zip code Lady asked how much I only did $150 this go around. Swiped the MCGC, entered PIN and all set. I don't now if a $500 or $490 would've loaded (I usually do $490 on my SS VGC). With the SS VGC you can/could do $499/swipe. |
I tried this past week in upper NY state and even $99.00 did not work with the $200.00 VGCs from Staples.

It is rather laughable you are trying to "educate" the OP who has been in this game since 2004.
20 years before you.

And yes, I have encountered an employee who did not initiate the procedure correctly at the start, but this is not it.

Do you know what variable means? variable - a quantity that may assume any one of a set of values another card is NOT a variable. LOL |

everytime there is arguments in this forum, you are always the common denominator. mods are too busy to notice it yet, they just delete your posts, but anyone paying attention already has. |

. The OP cruisr has been doing this since 2004. Curb71 has been here since last year. LOL You upright0744 has been here since 2 years ago @ldk has been here since 2021 All of you run around here acting like you'd know more than cruisr --- so disrespectful to him . I'd believe @cruisr's posts before any of yours.
