I still use my Serve, BB, and GoBank fairly regularly. I have the green Serve. One way to avoid the monthly fee is to have no balance on the card at the end of the monthly cycle. They will waive the fee then.
I leave some funds on it every several months to let them get a few bucks out of me. Hopefully that's good enough for them to not shut me down. I use these accounts as primary liquidation for $100 and $200 VGCs. |

The best Serve for loading purpose is the "Green" version. It has a monthly fee, but loading is free. It is very similar to Bluebird, but you can load at DG or FD for no fee. I'm not sure if anything has changed recently.
The good thing for Serve is that, you can load Vanilla GCs at FD/DG. This is still called Vanilla loading at stores. I have not used Serve for a couple of years. It is subject to the same shutdowns, just like BB. |
I don't have FD/DG, so I only care about load at Walmart. Does the blue version have load fee at Walmart? It is "up to $3.95" so it could be free.

Bluebird is considered a special WM version of Serve. It is only special at WM. At all other stores, there are loading fees. |
Serve Update (12/2020)
Just login to my old Serve card account. The interface is still the old one, not like the recent new updated BB interface. The payees are still there. But all of them show "Mail Check". So no electronic payment. Check takes about a week.
I was able to add new payee manually. This is the same as the BB account before the recent update. Now new BB interface won't allow any account number longer than 13 digits. This excludes adding credit card numbers. Anyone sees anything else, report back.... |
Trying to pay my amex everyday card with serve but can’t add payee bc stuck on zip code. NJ One on my bill doesn’t work, nor does NY HQ and TX bill mail address. I entered business as American express and my cc # as account number.
What am I doing wrong? |

Just enter AmEx as business name and Serve won't find it. You add the payee manually. Use all real payment info. It should take it. All are paper check now....
So the businss name/option American Express wont work then? I have to click cant find Payee option and then go use the write a check option to send payment to American express? i use all the same info on statement pay stub right? |

Yes. Try the regular way first. If it does not work, try to add it manually. Most payments are sent via paper checks anyway. Serve/BB are going back. Get worse now.
thought someone here might know what the secret AMEX zip code is for serve to get it to work |

i was at FD after 500 reload to immediate pay amex and kept getting stuck at zip code part on serve app, frustrate the hell out of me as these stores in my town are not in very nice neighborhoods. should i try to do a sample low amt check first to see if it works?
thought someone here might know what the secret AMEX zip code is for serve to get it to work Also, try not to pay AmEx with Serve/BB. Serve/BB are still somehow related to AmEx. AmEx knows really well that you use Serve/BB to pay them..... This opens door for AmEx Financial Review. |

Do not waste your time with guessing zip code. Serve/BB has broken with the recent changes. They kept updating software and interface.

Currently, I have access to several surviving Serve accounts of family members and friends. In order to use their accounts to load and billpay to my Chase and AMEX credit cards, should I add their names to the list of the authorized users of my credit cards?
The problem to do this is of course, the list can be long and will most likely be ever changing due to future shutdowns. |

No need. Serve/BB just send the payments to the card number. They do not check names.
