Bill Pay cannot be done at a regular register.
It must be done at Customer Service/Returns.
Or at the Money Center in stores that have it.


BUSINESS DAY transaction completion time is 18:59:59 EST
Friday after 06:59PM EST, until Monday BEFORE 07:00PM EST arrives Tuesday
Tuesday BEFORE 7:00PM arrives Wednesday
Wednesday BEFORE 07:00PM arrives Thursday
Thursday BEFORE 07:00PM arrives Friday
Friday BEFORE 07:00PM arrives Monday
But when a next-day payment will post and be visible depends upon the CC issuer.

WM offers two BP services: CheckFreePAY and MoneyGram. The cashier can initiate CheckFreePAY by selecting Money Services followed by Bill Pay on the register for a fee of $1-1.88. Moneygram is $4.99.

Once your CFP account is set up, you can add cc. When you want to BP give them your phone# to look up your account under Money Services. They often get confused and think you want MG, but just say it is under Money Services.

ONLY 4 successful debit card swipes can pay for a transaction.

ONLY 5 payments per 16 digit account number per rolling 30 days.

If your particular card isn't on the list below, try "VISA" or "MASTERCARD."

"VISA" and "MASTERCARD" payee can no longer be found by search at some stores. If the employee can no longer find "VISA" or "MASTERCARD" by searching in CheckFreePAY, then you cannot pay either, end of story.

Oh wow, I was definitely looking for this. Do you know if it works at other checkfreepay stores, like Martha Stewart's favorite clothing shop (Kmart)?

I remember this being posted a while back but can't find the exact situation and need some help:
I Did a $1998.12 BP. After 2 $500 GC swipes the screen froze (as it always does) so I reset it. While it was resetting, the cashier hit a button by mistake and the register thought I paid the rest of the payment in cash and printed the receipt. On the receipt were the 2 $500 debit GC charges and $1,000 in phantom cash that I never gave them. So, the mgr came over and voided the entire transaction (I have the receipt for this). However, it's been 7 days and the funds have not gone back to my GCs.

Anyone have this happen to them? Do the funds ever go back to the GCs or do I now need to fight with WM to get my $1,000 back? (BTW the BP transaction never processed to my CC so the void was successful.)

I had it happen once. The money goes back tot he Gift cards. But 7 days is too long.
You can call the Walmart store and their accounting office can look up the details and see if they have your money.

This happened to me once where i used 2 x $500 and she entered cash for $1k for a total of $2k bill payment. They voided it and instead of crediting the gift cards they gave me $1k in cash. They also had me do another billpay with $1k cash and $1k with the remaining 2 x $500 gift cards I had.

This has happened to me so many times. In most cases the gift card was refunded right away. I had one case a few weeks back with Kate not printing my MO and I wanted for over 7 days and the GC was never credited. I had to go to the store, they had to make a few calls and after about an hour, I was given 500$ cash. In fact the manager thanked me for being very patient about this and offered a 10% off next time I want to purchase anything in WM. If not for MS, I will never step into a WM.
So, you should go to the store, ask for the back office manager and explain the situation. He/She should be able to verify and give you the cash. Prepare to spend at least 1 hour there for them to resolve this.
While you are it, you might as well MS some more.

Thanks all. I'll pack a lunch, set up camp at the CS desk, MS, and wait for them to resolve it. Seems like the GCs aren't credited if the transaction processes (and a receipt prints out). If they void the transaction before completing it I've had my GCs credited immediately.

WM rules/policies are constantly changing, something that's working now may not work tonight/next day/next week if you get the drift? Therefore, it is best to have other back up plans to liquidate those GCs so that if WM B/P doesn't work for you, you can move on to plan B or C or D.

IME, I take other's experiences at WM as a guide only, what works for me does not work for them, and vice-versa so I go ahead and do what I can. Fortunately, I have lots of friendly WMs in my area.

I know some workarounds have been discussed, but I still seem to be having the following issue at my local WM when paying bills through CheckFreePay:

After two (of four planned) swipes on the new POS unit, I get the dreaded green "OK" button of death. When I press it, nothing happens and the only workable option seems to be to reboot the unit (clear and -), which takes some time and holds up the line. A similar problem occurs with MO purchases, but this can be resolved by the associate.

Has anyone discovered an effective workaround with this billpay issue on the new POS units? I have tried many different options without success.

can I do billpay for $2000 at one store, and go to another store immediately to billpay the same credit card for another $2000? because both transactions will be processed through checkfreepay, will that raise red flag?

also, the next day billpay could reach my credit card account before the transaction is actually posted, will the credit card company accept the bill pay and have a negative balance on my credit card account for couple day until the transaction is actually posted?

Yes, but I would suggest paying a different amount on the 2nd bill pay in case there is an issue with one of them posting. That way is is easier to determine which one didn't go through.

Maybe, but I have not heard any reports.

Why go to another store? Today I used bill pay to pay same cc with two separate transactions of $1998 each. No problems. No apparent concern or issue.

I actually just heard of a workaround today from a WM assoicate. Usually it's the other way around with me telling them the latest ways to coax these machines into doing our bidding. To be fair, he learned this from a customer that came in over the weekend. The trick is for the person behind the register to press credit and cancel once you hit the block on the pinpad. We tried it and it didn't work. He swore that was the button combination the other customer told him, and it cleared up the block on the pinpad instantly. I was so happy after he told me about it, but so bummed when it didn't work. We tried making it work with numerous permutations, but eventually had to fall back to resetting the pinpad.

Any one know more about this? PM if necessary.
