You do save some $$, plus a trip to the bank to CA, by loading MVD onto GB (or BB) at Walmart
Just did $2,000 at the "10 item or less" register (two, $1000 loads) and checked MVD website to see .50 each transaction. The same $2000 CA at BOA would have cost me $1.95, plus the drive and waiting in line at the bank. Now I can bill-pay the money out of GB, pay the mortgage or paypal the money back into my checking account (via non-GB registered email address). The ultimate cost of those two VR became $8.9 which is still better than $9.85 (plus trip to bank). So all in all not too bad. I don't plan on doing this all the time but I was curious to see if it worked. For some reason i did not realize that you could do this... Are you saying that you load your GoB with MVD at the SCO line? Not the Kiosk? |

Did you try this at the kiosk, money center, or cashier? I'm curious if things changed, since my not-real-recent experience differs at a kiosk.

Well, I was told this morning that $500 is max at the customer service counter (no separate Money Center) - since kiosk can't split loads and I only had $500 Gift Cards

Thank you for this post.

That might be a soft limit then. Give it a try with a cashier at a checkout register instead.

I have done a $1k load to GB at a regular register and paid with two GCs in a split transaction.

I consider this more or less irrelevant, since GB loads are free. They also have different limits for different cards, so GB $1,000 load does not say anything about MVD limits.
Using MVD to load GB will result in a 50 cent charge. |

No, reports vary, but I was not able to load more than $500, with $3.74 fee
I felt like an idiot today. I went in with my MVD with $20 to try it out (I have been using Chase debits and they work like a charm--and no activation fee right now!) and when I swiped it the cashier said, "No debit available." Confused, I called them and they said that it's $.50 a transaction, so I would actually have to say $19.50 or charge it as credit. I will go back later and do it this way. Are there any automatic reloads that deposit to BB that do not charge per transaction if using debit? I am fine with the activation fee of each reload, but there is literally a fee at every turn. Guess that's the price I pay for trying to get points for utilities and rent! |
