I don't believe you can set PIN for temp MVD cards. But things might have changed since I last checked a few months ago. You can check again and please report back.

So, the only way to cash them out is at the bank? Makes it difficult to buy 20.

You can definitely cash out your temp. MVD with a pin. You need to call them and set up a pin (or I think maybe I did it online...). Regardless, I was able to do it and I used it until I received the permanent one with my name on it yesterday.

Without PIN, an iffy yes - because the temp card does not have your name on it - it depends on how well / comfortable your bank knows / feels about you so it is willing to do cash advance on a card bears no name. Can be done but not a straight shot.

You did it online when you registered your temp card. Without registration there would be no PIN. Not sure if the phone rep could let you set a PIN over the phone.

The poster's plan is to get 20 temp cards without any intention to register them - that aint going to work if his scheme is to use PIN-facilitated function to liquidate them.

So, my max is 3 cards per person and i need to register them to use them, correct? Can I assign a zip code to it to use it as a credit card WITHOUT registration?

reloaded a strangers card

my story: picked up some VRs and was attempting to load myvanilladebit, my MVD card wasn't at hand so i went from memory typing in the card number - submitted reload then went to check my balance

balance didn't increase, so i refreshed the page a few times, waited, etc.. never showed up -- so I wondered if I'd keyed my acct # in wrong; a few 'back' clicks in the browser and I could see the VR load confirmation page -- sure enough, I'd entered the last 4 incorrectly..

my card ends XAXB but I had entered XBXA, so my assumption that the algorithm would catch an error was incorrect

so I called VR customer service - they told me "sorry, it's like cash, when it's gone it's gone" FML

so I called MVD customer service - had to explain myself, gave him the PIN of the errant load, and then after about 20 minutes of being on hold (the rep kept checking in with me to let me know it was progressing), they asked me if I'd done any other loads recently - so I pulled out another VR and read off the PIN... the rep confirmed that I had reloaded Mr. XBXA's account twice (FML!)

they were able to move both reloads from XBXA's account to my account (about 45 min on phone total), I guess it's a good thing I screwed up the 2nd load or I might not have realized my error on the previous one. The deduction from XBXA's account must have made him really sad.

I was given notice that I had been misusing the card, as it was intended for daily purchases and that my account would be shut down in 48 hours and any remaining funds would be sent to me in a check.

It's been 1 week and the account still shows active.

I was really surprised to find that they would issue card numbers that were so similar. I plan to stop using this card (too great a risk for error) and get a new one.

Wow.. just wow.

I found some VR at a MurphyUSA (Walmart gas station). I got very excited, so I purchased four of them. The receipts printed out and showed to be good; however, they do not load to my MVD. I called Incomm this morning and sent over photos of the receipts and cards. Should be processed in 7 business days and they will even push the money onto the MVD for me. I was getting "Card not activated 4002" error.

Anyone else experience this?

I keep a text file of my vanilla #s so I don't transpose a number.

Out of curiosity - how much money were you moving through this card that caused them to shut you down?

I should start doing this (but really, learning a 16 digit # just comes to me... if not for that damn XAXB/XBXA string at the end)

I think I came to their attention because I called & a manager had to be beckoned to fix my stupid reload mishap.

purchased MVD in early May - had loaded 6k, withdrew 2k CA
in June loaded 7k, 2k billpay (WM), CA 2k (thrice)

loads were 1-2k at a time, some couple days apart, sometimes a couple weeks would go by between; same with CAs

all this is prior to the incident, then they fixed the errant 1k load error
and then since I had 48 hrs to kill, I loaded 1k more, and did two 2.5k CAs to drain account

I left a few bucks on the card and it is still active (I see there's a $10 fee for them to send funds in a check, unsure if that applies when they shut you down [yes, I should read more of the thread] but I'm not too worried about it)

I plan to test it with a 1k load then CA later this week

So I could probably buy MO at the grocery store with this...

It's safe, except for the fact that he has 3. If there are large amounts of money, I'm sure it may look like he is laundering.

Are Murphy's always located at a WM? are there stand alone Murphy's in certain parts of the country?
