On the right of ritz is ministry of justice
On the left is brunei house

3-5 listed as brunei residence in court/public records

IIRC Dorchester was "disliked" because of the brunei position on the gay ?
Is it true that he bought the BH hotel to ease his daughter wedding ?

Excactly. The other ones are also not well known for being over the top tolerant. The position to gays is only the icing on the top. If we start with this the list of "ethical correct" properties and vacation-spots comes down to not too many.

Any specific hotel recommendations for Paris ?

I am planning to visit Paris during the first quarter of June. I am little bit confused on choosing a hotel. We (me and my wife) will be staying there for 3 days. I am first timer to Paris - so usual drill - view of Eiffel tower, privacy, etc. Also closer to key sights will be a bonus.

Any first timer 101 tips will be awesome (I bought the Lonely Planet Paris guide which confused me more :P ). Thanks

Shangri-La Paris has great views of the Eiffel Tower and Seine River. They have a Duplex suite with amazing views of both.

A couple quick tips to save you time.

Catacombs I'd recommend using a reputable tour company to avoid the lines. I've seen it exceed 3-4 hours as there's a limited number of people allowed in the catacombs at once. Also the Louvre look up the "secret" entrances (Metro locations and others) if you're going to go there, the main line outside can easily be 1-2 hours. Again a reputable tour company can also bypass this too.

The food ahh... so much good food and other things to do. Paris is great and as far as recommendations it really depends on what you're looking to do, what things you and your wife like.

In Paris I would instinctively avoid the big international hotel chains - Four Seasons, Shangri-La, Mandarin Oriental etc etc. Go for something less blingy-glitzy and find somewhere with lots of genuine character, like the Pavilion de la Reine, on the most beautiful square in the city.

I personally feel having a view of the Eiffel Tower view is overrated ... but as Jason said, you'll have a great view from half of the rooms at the Shangri-La and a side view from the front-facing rooms at the Plaza Athenee.

However, I'd rather be more central. My favorite hotel in Paris is Le Meurice because you're literally in the heart of Paris and can walk to most of the major sights. There are Executive rooms at Le Meurice with a view of the Eiffel Tower - but I don't think it's worth paying for the view.

Here's a link to my September 2016 reviews of Paris hotels.

Quintessentially Parisian and utterly delightful, central location: Le Bristol.

But you can't go wrong with most of the venues suggested herein. Ditto on avoiding FS, MO and other name brand luxury.

Attend a concert at Norte Dame thereby avoiding the lengthy lines whilst enjoying sublime music. Tour the Garnier Opera (Chagall mural inside the dome).

I highly recommend the premier junior suite (Eiffel tower view) at the superbly designed La Reserve.

It would depend on your budget and time of visit.

Welcome to Flyertalk, risingstar! I am not sure that this is a request for a luxury hotel but will assume that it is. We already have an excellent ongoing thread on Paris luxury hotels so I am going to combine this thread with that one.
