Trying to get in touch with EK over the phone to change my ticket after the ban on residents entering the UAE, but it doesn't even ring, just stays silent after I dial and then the call fails eventually.

Anyone else having this issue?

How can you change the ticket when you don’t know when the ban will be lifted?

I don't know when the ban will be lifted, but I'd like to set a tentative travel date of around 15 days from today.

The reason I'm in a rush to change my ticket is because I don't want to be declared as a no-show for my current itinerary which is booked for tomorrow morning.

change in refund policy

Have they just backtracked/changed their refund policy?

Previously, refunds were - 'Refund of unutilised tickets'. As of today, I see - 'Refund as per fare rules;

Even worse...this refund as per fare rules option also applies for flights cancelled by Emirates.

Customers with tickets issued on/before 31st March who are impacted due to:
  • Travel ban: Where there is government notification that prohibits travel
  • Travel advisory: General government advisory against non-essential travel
  • Quarantine requirements: Mandatory quarantine at origin or destination
  • Mandatory lockdown: Countries in which government have issued a mandatory lockdown and customers are therefore unable to reach airport
  • Flight cancellation: Flights cancelled by Emirates

Are eligible for Rebooking, Travel Voucher and Refund options:
  • Rebooking is permitted within the ticket validity without fee, applicable fare difference if any may apply
  • Travel voucher for ticket value with a validity of 12 months from date of issue
  • Refund as per fare rules

Emirates considering grounding A380 fleet:

Emirates, the world’s biggest long-haul airline, is looking at grounding the bulk of its 115 Airbus SE superjumbos as the coronavirus undermines global travel demand, people familiar with the situation said.

Dubai-based Emirates has already idled more than 20 A380s and is seeking to delay taking the last handful due for delivery, Bloomberg reported last week. The company hasn’t made a decision on standing down the fleet, according to the people, who asked not to be named discussing a private matter.

My mrs is angry but not for that reason - for the reason she is almost out of work!

Crew told today that they need to follow the 14 day quarantine rule on arrival... only they can break it to work on their next flight. Hm.

this is only when they decide to travel on leave, those 14d are deducted from their leave balance. However travelling now is strongly advised against if not made impossible because of gov restrictions

This appears to suggest that they are expected to self-quarantine between flights but the 14 day rule does not apply if they have another flight. This seems to defeat the point of quarantine.

Later in the email, it seems to suggest that when you return from leave, you can break quarantine to operate your next flight albeit badly written.

Does EC.261 cover EU refund scenarios? (Compensation no, but refund yes)?
