Ticket was issued in Oct 2019. i could potentially get a travel voucher from Emirates but as I understood it i have to use it within one year which means I'll have to travel by Oct this year. I doubt i'll be able to travel anywhere this year. If don't use it by Oct, I am likely to lose all the money. Does anyone have any experience with emirates travel vouchers?

Soopergal Look at your Emirates E Ticket, under Class it says Saver, Flex etc. I would say more then likely you will have a Saver or Special which are usually at a fee cancellation. Cheap-O-Air should refund you in full as its not a cancellation request by you but the airline, I would therefore say, try may take a while but get through to them and ask them to process a refund and you expect a full refund. It will take a while as they may say waiting for EK to refund, if you paid by card, I would just contact card provider and say you cant get through to them and Emirates will only refund Cheap-O-Air and they will do chargeback. I did one last year as my flights were cancelled with another online TA, airline refunded quickly but TA was taking forever, speaking to Spanish, Indian call centre's I lost the will to live and asked Amex to do a chargeback, they did and it was all good.
ukdoctor firstly, have to ask are you really a doctor :) Secondly, look at the bottom of your E ticket, under Fare Calculation it will give a breakdown of the fare and how each segment is calculated. It is excluding airport taxes etc but should give you an idea. I would ask Expedia as Emirates are going to give you a hard time getting a refund but I am guessing you do need to get back at some point so may be easier to get Expedia to get you new flights back or onwards. For all - If you’re within the EU or departing from the EU then you are covered by EU261, I would recommend citing EU261 in the comments box something on the likes of "Dear Emirates, As per EU261 rules my flight originated within the EU and I am aware due to the current Pandemic you would class this as an extraordinary event and therefore have opted to cancel the flight. I wish to exercise my right to a full refund without any deductions or fees as prescribed by European Law. I look forward to your confirmation of my full refund, (IF PAID BY CARD) I would remind you that my payment was made by card, should a full and prompt refunded not be issued, I will be forced to request a chargeback from my credit card provider which will result in adverse costs for Emirates." If not EU, use "Dear Emirates, I note you have cancelled my flight to Chicago scheduled for the 28th March 2020.The contract of carriage was based on you performing a service which you are unable to provide. I therefore require a full refund without any deductions or penalties given the failure to perform the service is on Emirates behalf and not myself. (IF PAID BY CARD ADD) Please note should Emirates fail to provide a full refund, I will be forced to request my card provider to issue a chargeback request." Note flights outside of the EU dont have the same level of cover and unless you paid by card, then you may not have much recourse unless you issue court proceedings which may not be worth the fee. I would only issue proceedings if they are intent on a voucher which is not useful to you. As for 90 days payments, I would expect it to be sooner but I have a feeling its more the admin task of processing refunds then the bank holding onto the money. Yes Suley. I am one . Not sure if I'll survive over the next few months but do hope to fly again on EK.:( |
Refunds now offered.
But have to wait 12 months from when you purchased the ticket!!!!! Um, no thanks. All this doesn't leave you with positive image of EK's cash reserves. How much are they going to ask Abu Dhabi to bail them out? We have enhanced our 'Keep your ticket' option with the possibility to do a full refund after 12 months from the original ticket issuance date, even for those tickets that were non-refundable, as well as those which were only refundable against a penalty. Example: Ticket issued 20 May 2019 for outbound travel 10 Apr 2020, you may claim a full refund regardless of fare rules from 20 May 2020. Additionally, immediate refunds are permitted according to the fare rules. Suspension of refunds through GDS Dear Trade Partner Due to a surge in refunds through GDS channels, Emirates has globally suspended the Refund Notice function through the GDS. Refunds may still be submitted via the Refund Applications through the BSP link, however, the current admin charge of GBP50 will no longer apply until further notice. If you have any queries on the above topic please contact your local Sales team. Thank you for your continued support during this unprecedented time. |

When I did not get the money refunded after a few days (money has usually appeared back in my card within at most a week), I called the Emirates elite line and was told that there is a new policy according to which all refunds will take 90 days to process. Not quite as ridiculous as the Swiss policy of forcing you to wait for 9 months to get your refund, but still it looks like one will be forced to wait to get their cash back for 3 months. ......... |

Are you sure??
Big difference between refunding via GDS (ie, instant) or BSP Link (ie, in a queue waiting for airline to process) |

Yes. Check Emirates Agents website.
Big difference between refunding via GDS (ie, instant) or BSP Link (ie, in a queue waiting for airline to process) A friend of mine has a small travel agency in ZRH and she is not worried about getting EK’s or other major international airlines refunds with a delay (so far she had no issues), but getting no refunds at all from LX - as stated by LX. LH Group currently appeals to the German government for an urgent cash bailout. |

But it does not say that EK will not refund, just that it will take longer to process it. EK is not the only airline out there doing this, all of them struggle with this force majeure situation

https://i.emlfiles4.com/cmpdoc/8/7/0...11I2EM,3VUKJ,1 Are you on EK's payroll? Telling customers to wait 12 months is abysmal. Doesn't matter if EK is not the only one. That's no defence to being a terrible company. Airline struggling for cash flow? Well boo hoo. So are ordinary people. And they don't have the power of a wealthy state behind them. |

Dubai has hardly any oil and is heavily reliant on EK and tourism. The real wealth sits in Abu Dhabi. |

Interesting, EK main website says rebook in same sector and any fare differance is waived but for TA's its Fare difference (if any) will need to be collected
Obviously If EK prices were the same we would have all booked through EK.Most of us ( except maybe those with package deals etc ) would have booked a EK.ticket via a TA as it was cheaper than booking directly on EK. I have 3 tickets I am sorting out at the moment for travel in the next 2 weeks. 2 are via TA and it can be a nightmare.. :( |

Did you mean to post this in the Rwandair forum? EK's VFR passengers need their money back far more desperately than this poor little impoverished Emirate. |
So emirates still refusing to offer refunds. THey're offering a voucher and if you don't use it within 12 months you can get a refund
I'm departing from Europe so they're actively breaking European law. What do you guys recommend? |
