Message to EK

I have no doubt that Emirates is monitoring this forum. My wife and I (long time EK customers skywards 4xxxxxxxx and 5xxxxxxxx) want to advise EK (for what it is worth) that we not be using EK in the future as a result of their policies re cancelled flights and refunds.
We prepaid for a service that the service provider is unable to provide (flight was cancelled in our case). This in anyone 's language entitles customer to a full refund. We were offered a refund minus a hefty charge for "cancellation".

Did you book directly with Ek or via a travel agent ?

Via a travel agent.

Same with me, I used American Express Travel. When my flight was cancelled last week they said their hands are tied with what they can offer and have to go by Emirates policy, which is the voucher. I could really do with the money back and I read about the EU law, EC261/2004 article 8, but I'm not sure if anyone has been successful in getting a refund this way once they've already had a voucher issued.

Intresting what EK say here https://www.independent.co.uk/travel...-a9428731.html basically a voucher can still be refunded but in a years time? Seeing how EK have behaved so far, I would expect them to flipflop on that. If you plan the same trip again then not cancelling may be worth it since you can fly in peak for no extra costs, therefore a £400 ticket could be reticked for £1000 depending on month booked

The refund after 12 months is pointless. The clause is:

Should you be unable to travel for 12 months from the date we issued your voucher, you can extend for another year or opt for a cash refund subject to fare conditions applicable at the time of your original booking.
So if your fare conditions have a fee to cancel, then that's what you'll need to pay to get the refund. If your fare conditions include a fee free cancellation then you probably wouldn't have opted for a voucher in the first place.

It's not a fee free refund though. You still have to pay the cancellation fee (even though you didn't cancel, they did) which is part of your original fare conditions.

And if you booked via a travel agent you might end up having to pay an extra fee to the travel agent as admin fee .

This is on top of whatever EK charges.

Travel agents have this in the T&C which most of us never look at..

So possibly then from Makhtoum?
If that happens would that mean using current situation to attempt to bumpstart the new airport..which so far has shown itself to be a white elephant.. especially as I believe the plans were for it to increase usage for the Expo?

So, it seems Emirates still flat out refuse refunds even though they cancelled the itinerary? I, just as a formality, filled in the online refunds form, requesting a full refund of my itinerary after they cancelled the ticket - I got a confirmation email and of course nothing else.

Wondering how long to wait before attempting a credit card dispute with the evidence that they cancelled and haven't refunded.

If you did through the concierge service (phone based Amex Travel) then yep insurance is best to claim of since Amex Plat card is a charge card and does not offer much in terms of protection, you could try the refund protection but I am sure it's limited to £200. It's why I put off buying through my plat card my friends rescue flights with BA. Put it on wife's Amex Credit Card, better protection for chargeback's.
