Change return date to 1-2 months later
Flown one way already, and it looks like my return flight in three weeks from Thailand to Serbia is extremely unlikely to happen. DXB-BEG leg was cancelled a few days ago, and now most likely the HKT-DXB will be cancelled. Not to mention, I may not be able to enter neither Thailand nor Serbia, as I'm not a citizen of either. I'm in Malaysia now.
I don't really want refund or voucher because the amount will likely be a tiny fraction of a new ticket price. Instead, I'd like to be booked on the next flight from HKT to BEG (or elsewhere in Europe...) whenever it happens. I can wait a couple months easily before the things settle down. How and when should I approach the support with this request? Now there is availability starting on May 19, but I suspect that travel restrictions for foreigners may not be lifted until June or later. So far I'm going to wait until April at least before contacting support since it's not urgent. |
Emirates price drops
With the virtual collapse of the travel industry due to Covid 19, can we expect reduced fares from Emirates in the coming months as they try to bring in revenue. Looking at Australia for Christmas and they are still charging huge prices

Emirates flight canceled (ORD to DXB)
So just received an email that my roundtrip flight in early April from Chicago ORD to Dubai DXB got canceled. I booked it through Expedia. Am I able to get a full refund or only voucher? What is the rule? I remember I purchased the ticket using Chase Ink Preferred which has flight cancellation protection but prefer to go through airline route first than credit card protection if possiblr

Travel Vouchers/Credit
I bought a non-refundable ticket through a travel agent. i was due to travel in a couple of weeks, obviously it's not going to happen. Ticket was issued in Oct 2019. i could potentially get a travel voucher from Emirates but as I understood it i have to use it within one year which means I'll have to travel by Oct this year. I doubt i'll be able to travel anywhere this year. If don't use it by Oct, I am likely to lose all the money. Does anyone have any experience with emirates travel vouchers?

Go through Expedia, and ask for a full refund. If they refuse or only offer a voucher, do a credit card charge back.
|
Your contract is with the travel agent. It's up to them to refund you. Don't accept a voucher if you won't be able to use it. The travel agent will then have to get their money back from Emirates - but that's not your issue.
If you paid by credit card, you should be able to do a charge back if the travel agent refuses - although this may not be an option depending where you are in the world. |

Do you have any experience with chargeback in a travel agent booking if half of the ticket has been used . Have one ticket booked via a TA which has been used partially. (Half flown) So do I ask for 50% of the money I paid as charge back ? |

As with many of you, my mid April itineray with Emirates has now officially been cancelled. Booked directly with Emirates. What is there current policy? Will they refund in full? Don't want a voucher, as I won't be able to use it within a year as Emirates isn't my typical carrier. Couple days ago when I phoned them they said no refunds - but flight was not cancelled them. I can put in the request for refund online - just wondering if anyone had insight into current policy as I don't want to spend hours in the phone queue. Oh, my ticket allows refunds with $300 fee; but as they have now cancelled, will that fee be waived?

On the Travel Voucher web page you currently still have the option to either request a voucher or a refund (option is at bottom of web page).

Just to give heads up to everyone on what seems to be the latest stealth change to the Emirates refund policy.
I used the automated website link (not the refund form, but the actual link that lets you automatically process refunds according to the original fare conditions) to request refund for a fully flexible economy fare, meaning that the fare conditions permit 100% refund and the Covid-19 situation should be irrelevant. When I did not get the money refunded after a few days (money has usually appeared back in my card within at most a week), I called the Emirates elite line and was told that there is a new policy according to which all refunds will take 90 days to process. Not quite as ridiculous as the Swiss policy of forcing you to wait for 9 months to get your refund, but still it looks like one will be forced to wait to get their cash back for 3 months. Just bear that in mind if you book Emirates tickets, even a fully flexible fare is apparently not safe as Emirates can and will simply hold on to your money without shame or apology. As suggested above, chargeback seems to be the only option at this point, whatever the fare conditions and your contract of carriage is not worth the paper it is written on. |
How do i find out the ticket type? (economy saver, full flex etc). The itinerary from the travel agent does not have that info. It just says coach.

Soopergal Look at your Emirates E Ticket, under Class it says Saver, Flex etc. I would say more then likely you will have a Saver or Special which are usually at a fee cancellation. Cheap-O-Air should refund you in full as its not a cancellation request by you but the airline, I would therefore say, try may take a while but get through to them and ask them to process a refund and you expect a full refund. It will take a while as they may say waiting for EK to refund, if you paid by card, I would just contact card provider and say you cant get through to them and Emirates will only refund Cheap-O-Air and they will do chargeback. I did one last year as my flights were cancelled with another online TA, airline refunded quickly but TA was taking forever, speaking to Spanish, Indian call centre's I lost the will to live and asked Amex to do a chargeback, they did and it was all good.
ukdoctor firstly, have to ask are you really a doctor :) Secondly, look at the bottom of your E ticket, under Fare Calculation it will give a breakdown of the fare and how each segment is calculated. It is excluding airport taxes etc but should give you an idea. I would ask Expedia as Emirates are going to give you a hard time getting a refund but I am guessing you do need to get back at some point so may be easier to get Expedia to get you new flights back or onwards. For all - If you’re within the EU or departing from the EU then you are covered by EU261, I would recommend citing EU261 in the comments box something on the likes of "Dear Emirates, As per EU261 rules my flight originated within the EU and I am aware due to the current Pandemic you would class this as an extraordinary event and therefore have opted to cancel the flight. I wish to exercise my right to a full refund without any deductions or fees as prescribed by European Law. I look forward to your confirmation of my full refund, (IF PAID BY CARD) I would remind you that my payment was made by card, should a full and prompt refunded not be issued, I will be forced to request a chargeback from my credit card provider which will result in adverse costs for Emirates." If not EU, use "Dear Emirates, I note you have cancelled my flight to Chicago scheduled for the 28th March 2020.The contract of carriage was based on you performing a service which you are unable to provide. I therefore require a full refund without any deductions or penalties given the failure to perform the service is on Emirates behalf and not myself. (IF PAID BY CARD ADD) Please note should Emirates fail to provide a full refund, I will be forced to request my card provider to issue a chargeback request." Note flights outside of the EU dont have the same level of cover and unless you paid by card, then you may not have much recourse unless you issue court proceedings which may not be worth the fee. I would only issue proceedings if they are intent on a voucher which is not useful to you. As for 90 days payments, I would expect it to be sooner but I have a feeling its more the admin task of processing refunds then the bank holding onto the money. |
