The UAE has banned all of its citizens from traveling abroad. Effective today, Wednesday, March 18th.

"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has announced a temporary ban on citizens traveling abroad from Wednesday until further notice, in light of its efforts to cope with the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus, and as a concern for the safety and health of citizens."

Dubai: The UAE will temporarily suspend issuing all visas on arrival from March 19 until further notice.

UAE residents are not affected.

Those who enter the country may be tested on arrival and/or be required to self-isolate, according to statement on the government website.

Does anyone know if cabin crew have been affected..In most of the other airlines in asia the cabin crew were wearing masks while on EK they were not as of last week..

I know that it's a very hotly debated topic but just wondering..

As of today:

- Crew are permitted to wear masks and gloves on all flights.
- Crew have been told to stay in their hotels during layovers.
- Crew have finally been formally allowed to apply for unpaid leave (although allegedly this was offered previously)

Like all other airlines, hardly surprising given the many route closures.

Lots of pilots and cabin crew with nowhere to fly to.

it may even cease all operations for a while.

Changes tonight :

UAE halts entry of residency visa holders who are abroad

So this means only UAE citizen can enter the country starting today and will be 14 days self quarantine. Nobody can enter UAE now if not a citizen.

Does anyone know if EK canceled DXB-LUN? It's not bookable. But it doesn't show up in the list of cancellations.

A friend of mine has a JFK-LUN booking for this Saturday. Would like to cancel it, but EK denies that it's been cancelled. Moving the flight would also be fine, but it doesn't show up in the schedule.

Yikes, must be a number of people locked out, possibly even separated from their families .

From The National: From Thursday at midday, only Emiratis who are overseas can pass through the country's borders.

UAE residents who are abroad will not be allowed to re-enter the country for two weeks. The order could be extended, the government said.
