Don't think I've had it in that style before. Chopped up hot mess (standard Singapore/Malaysia style) yes, cubed yes, as those mini slabs yes. Where did you have it in that style? Would be interested in trying it if I'm in the area.

Personally, I love interesting presentations of veggies. A wedge salad, not so much, but having some veggies is definitely necessary.

A tea-house or restaurant in San Francisco? I know, not very precise, but it's the best I could do right now, and it had been the first time I had seen it prepared that way

Yeah, I just can't deal with the bitter taste of most of veggies, and have gotten over the fear of unabashedly avoiding anything I dislike a long time ago. I just figure some V8 and an extra 30 minutes at the gym will balance the health ledger at the end of the day.

Really? I've never noticed a bitter taste in vegetables.... Not counting bitter melon... I'll have to see if I detect it now that you've made me think about it.

My nutritionist, back when I had one, classified it as my being a supertaster, and recommended various peculiar methods (like trying to gaslight me into thinking carrot sticks were not only healthier but also tasted better than fries) to overcome it. I was like whatever, and intimated that she had better come up with a regimen that excluded the foods I didn’t like or I’d find someone who will, ultimately resulting in a regimen of V8, berries (black, blue and ras), and daily multivitamin.

Dinner was a NY Pizza from Tony’s, which their menu denoted as having won some awards. It was really good, and probably better than Amici’s. Bummed game 5 (the reason I had ordered the pizza in the first place) was postponed, and had to fall back on MNF, poor substitution for a winner take all game 5.

PS - I think the restaurant for the lao-bok-go in a bow was something called the Mayflower Lounge or something on Geary Street in SF?

Thanks. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be heading to the US soon. Too many projects at homebase (which is not a bad thing).

As for dinner, just a simple rice in chicken stock (fortified with ginseng and a few other ingredients I don't not sure how to spell, but helps with boosting health)

After a day of multiple failed projects, I took a leftover packet of Laksa mix and a whole bag of pork and shrimp dumplings... Not quite comfort food, but good enough to make me feel a little better.
