Out of curiosity, what type of milk do you use?
Anything less and it gets a bit too "watery" for me. |

I used to use the same( for like 40 years lol) until I tried Almond milk for the first time. It was so much better, I never went back.

Interesting... what made you stick with Almond milk?
I am torn about almond milk because almond harvesting wastes so much water. I’m sure it’s really yummy from what I recall. |

probably cholesterol management. I use oat milk for coffee. I rarely have cereal and I’ll have it with whole milk as that’s our only cow milk.

I made the switch from cow's milk to almond milk years ago when I was trying to eat vegan in an effort to identify potential food sensitivities. It turned out that dairy wasn't an issue, but I realized that I don't like milk in coffee -- it's far too sweet for me. (A cup of 1% milk has 13g of sugar, a cup of Califia unsweetened almond milk has 0g of sugar.) |
Lunch: sliced leftover kielbasa on whole wheat with mustard. Cole slaw on the side.
|
Breakfast: cantaloupe
Lunch: Campbell's Chunky Manhattan Clam Chowder (wasn't great but got it on sale), garden salad with olive oil and red wine vinegar, and a pickle Anytime I get pickles, I usually add crushed red pepper flakes and some other spices to the jar to doctor up the pickles. I bought these last night and they need some more time. -J. |

I like almond milk but California (which grows something like half of the world's almonds) uses obscene amounts of scarce Colorado River water to grow them, and almonds are a very thirsty crop. So usually I get oat milk if I am doing non-cow milk. When we lived in Maine I used to get cow milk from a local dairy down the road. When I amassed enough empty bottles I'd take them to the dairy for a refund and an ice cream cone. I miss that here.
Today for lunch I had some of the leftover beef and barley soup my dad made the other day, and half a turkey and swiss sandwich. And some potato chips. |

breakfast... two bowls of corn flakes!

Until today, I didn't know about the amount of water/nut almonds take up. That and the amount of pesticide used on these. I wonder how they do the same thing in China. In the north they have this "almond" that's about 1/3 to 1/2 the size of the almonds that come out of California. The area I know they grow them out of isn't seaside, but doesn't have a lot of water... not sure how much pesticide they use.
Lunch for me was leftover egg fried rice with some preserved olive leaves (at least that's what the translation works out to).

For lunch (which I often don't have anymore), it was stromboli pizza.

This. "Almond milk requires more water than any of the other dairy alternatives: It takes 130 pints of water to produce a single glass of almond milk."
