For breakfast, I made eggs in a basket for myself and my grandson. For dinner, my daughter and I teamed up on the grill and cooked 2 dozen barbecued chicken drumsticks (used Cattleman’s). All the sides were prepared at Winn Dixie. Then we went for a family walk on the beach.

sweet!
what are eggs in a basket?
I’ll assume it’s not eggs cooked in the grilled fish basket we’ve discussed elsewhere :-)

The Father's Day from-scratch chocolate cream pie made for me. (Or, at this point, half of it after having more for breakfast :D)

Cracker Barrel terminology. My Aunt Mary called them Bunny in the Hole when she made them for me. You cut a hole in the middle of a slice of bread. Place it in a heated, buttered frying pan. Drop a raw egg in the hole. Flip when half cooked.

Yum. Is that a meringue on top or cream? Either way would be excellent.

Cream. Not a big meringue fan.

I like meringue but would take cream every time, given a choice. I made the mistake of giving Poppy a taste. She agreed with me immediately.

A couple years ago, I heard there was a BP in San Jose. After a day at the Triton Museum of Art in Santa Clara and some shopping at the Asian grocery store, my dad and I stopped in south SJ to have a very late lunch on our way home. Two ribeye steak sandwiches and fries, plus a shared side salad for $25. The restaurant looked and smelled just like old times. 🥰

I would take out the bread and eat the steak only. I would also eat the LTO like a salad and ask for a little ranch dressing, forgoing the pickles altogether.

When it’s a good piece of meat, I like eating it on its own, not sandwiched or extra-seasoned or sauced… just enjoy the meat. As Brian Kinney said for the marketing campaign, EAT THE MEAT

I'm quite a fan of steak sandwiches on SF sourdough, just like in boxo's picture.

IMO, the pickles belong on the side, and the fries are missing freshly cracked black pepper and a side of mayo for dipping.

Harrington's in SF FiDi made a good one, and more recently, it was my go to at Half Moon Bay Joe's.

Thanks for the suggestions. If I preferred to eat the steak alone, I would have eaten this as a sandwich for old times sake. The visit was really about the memories even though a different restaurant in a different city.

ETA: The fries should have spent a few more minutes in the fryer.

Today’s breakfast was last night’s leftovers. Kraft mac n cheese with brussels sprouts and carrots. I never buy Kraft and never the gooey cheese packet version, but when I saw it on sale, I bought it. It reminds me how bad and disinterested a cook my mother was / is.
