so awesome. I love joes in Chicago although I think our ordering steak was an error. Next time I’ll only get stone crab, maybe a salad, but no more silly (great) steak. We can get great steak everywhere and can only get stone crab at very few places.

With the remainder last week's leftover pig shoulder marinated with chile en adobo (mostly bits and pieces of scraps, with lots of sauce, at this point), I used that for some chilaquiles w/egg for today's mid-day meal, with some sliced palta on the side.

Since I've got a tub of fresh tomatillo salsa that well, won't be fresh very soon, I bought another bondiola de cerdo (that's the Argentina term - not sure what it is called in Mexican) and just put it in the Instant Pot, with some large chunks of onion and carrots, and that tub of salsa, with a bit of caldo de pollo to get enough steam going. I'll probably freeze half of it. Part may be mañana's dinner. Or who knows.

Fresh produce, Costco chicken skewers, and homemade tzaziki sauce. My body needed this healthy food today!

Been having too many huge some rather decadent meals

Here is a simpler one .. semi DIY pizza at the club .. just for fun .
The fish skin was supposed to be part of the CNY yusheng salad dish . But the fish skin can be enjoyed any time even as a snack 😊

Started with ordering mushrooms & tuna
https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...594ffb32f.jpeg
Add a little steak ( ordered by my parents )

Then pile on the bacon bits ( photo taken before it became a pile )

Finish with fried fish skin

You also see my usual mug of iced water with ice cubes

My daughter got to choose today’s dinner. I made her favourite - cream stew. My base recipe which I use when making this with fish or chicken is this one here:
https://www.nhk.or.jp/dwc/recipes/detail/43.html
Today’s was with chicken and instead of water I used some leftover chicken stock. Vegetables were onion, carrots, cabbage, spinach and sweetcorn.
Easy to make with just seafood ingredients if avoiding meat. If you have yuzu koshou, add a little bit at the table and the taste transforms into something rather more elegant than you’d probably expect.

Torn about dessert - strong chance of leftover chocolate chip scone with clotted cream!

These were so much easier to make than I had remembered. Just baked the first batch and have put the rolled out ready to slice second batch in the freezer for another occasion (they take less than 15 minutes in the oven). If Dango are reminiscent of a traditional Japanese downtown sweets store, these cookies (so long as you close your eyes, not my neatest creation) have all the finesse of a smart, upscale Tokyo bakery. It’s the ultimate shortcake/shortbread recipe.

The fruit looks delicious - I'm getting rather bored with citrus currently so turning towards tropical fruit, even if it comes with too many air miles. The Indian mango season should be starting soon, so that's something to look forward to.

Having said that, with fruit looking so good, can I suggest better cheese?

Gouda or Manchego? I love Ritz. I still laugh about being the BEC - best acronym ever :-)
I learned BEC on ft :-)

My wife had some bread that getting a bit long in the tooth, so decided to make some bread pudding for the first time.

Tasted quite nice! Bread pudding with vanilla bourbon sauce.

So here's the problem - the fruit in Bangkok (where I believe the picture was taken) is great - fresh and various. The cheese - not so much. Most of the time it consists of an unripe brie and a few other hard cheeses (if you're lucky) most of which are barely edible.
I can count on one hand the hotels that have served decent cheese (as part of the buffet) in Thailand. When there is good cheese it's always a pleasant surprise ;)
YMMV

Speaking of long in the tooth, I dug out some Best by 2018 and 2019 mac and cheese from waaay back in the cupboard. I went with the 2018 vintage, had to whack the cheese packet on the corner of the counter a few times, and added some balsamic roasted brussels sprouts to round things out.

Is there an “expired food” thread? 😁
