My Dad, who's also a frequent flier, just posted this on Facebook. He's riding along on what is essentially a crewed repositioning flight from Indianapolis to Atlanta.

I suppose they thought violating that limit was worth it in this case.

I think that rule only applies to flights within the US, no?

Excuse the ignorance, but how do I tell which inbound flight has the plane I'll be using on my outbound flight? I'm flying out of DCA on the 6:05pm today and wanted to monitor the inbound we're using to see if it's delayed / canceled.

DL app will also show you. When you're on your itinerary and where it says if your flight is One Time or Delayed, if you click on that it will pop up a "where's my plane" link. Click on that and it should show you.

I think you can also get this through DL.com if you search for a flight update.

I am using flightaware.com . If you look up a flight, it will show you the tail number, and if available, a link to the inbound flight. This tends to show up about 24 hrs in advance.

E.g. if you look at DL14 right now:
http://flightaware.com/live/flight/DAL14

you will see the (small) link to the inbound flight at the top right, as well as the tail number (N550NW). It isn't 100% accurate, but pretty good usually.

Day 3 and Delta still appears to have some significant issues. Two JAX-ATL flights canceled today with relatively short notice. The incoming plane from LGA to ATL(as much as you can trust flight aware on that) which was supposed to head to JAX was on time to ATL but the flight was st. I was lucky to still make an earlier flight, albeit downgraded to coach from paid-for F. The other option I was offered was to delay a day.

The Fly Delta app doesn't show my new flight, but they were able to print a boarding pass at the airport. It looks like a lot of passengers had issues with self check in , turning the "bag drop" line into special services.

Delta personnel was great and patient / friendly even though they are now dealing with this for 3 days.

Left JAX as well this morning and yea, it was a mixed bag. My flight (997 @ 9:22AM) was right on time with an early arrival in ATL, but the 5:30AM flight was rescheduled for I believe 11AM. I didn't see any cancellations, just significant delays.

To add insult to injury for DL Ops, DL 2110 (my connection) was delayed 3.5 hours for mechanical - I'm sure they didn't need that given everything else going on.

I will say, every Delta person that I've encountered has been particularly upbeat and has made every effort to be as helpful as they can be. Sometimes a smile goes a long way.

According to Reuters, Delta reached out to some of its most frequent fliers affected by this and offered to use Delta Private Jets to help them with the journey.

According to Delta, too. Good to help get customers moving, the free PR is just an added bonus!

Is it possible to get the status today of a BDL/MSP flight on Friday ? Online it says on time but I'm not sure if that's accurate.

Thanks

EDIT, I see the flight flew as scheduled today and Tuesday so I'm guessing barring any more issues Friday should be OK

Pretty startling that they have the cojones to spin the hell out of it with a video to boot

Nope. DL.com still doesn't have that functionality. Best bet is FlightAware.

What kind of plane is that? If it actually holds over 150 pax, then a fourth FA would be mandatory.

It's a 149-seat MD-88. I didn't bother to correct him. He's not a FTer — he's an old-fashioned, blood, sweat and work-paid segments frequent flier. So he doesn't have all the details down that we do.

Your father was 100% correct; he said that the plane holds "over 150 people," and by my math, he's absolutely correct. 149 passengers plus three FAs plus two pilots (and a flight deck jumpseat). That's in excess of "150 people."

The father didn't say "passengers," he said "people." And he was correct.
