Delta outage price tag: $100 million

Delta puts a dollar figure on the outage:

Delta Air Lines says the August computer outage that led to thousands of flight cancellations cost the company about $100 million in lost revenue.

The Atlanta-based airline, whose annual revenue is about $40 billion, included the estimate in a monthly performance report Friday. The amount includes both cancellations — about 2,300 over four days — and recovery efforts, Delta said.

Delta offered $200 travel vouchers to passengers whose flights were canceled or delayed for more than three hours during the outage, but it hasn’t said how many have sought the vouchers.

And thats why award travel mileage has been increased. Welcome to the delta zero sum game. They make a mistake and the customers end up paying for it anyway. But according to Delta it was Georgia powers fault?;) :D

I have to wonder what the tangible losses to the passengers were?

As to DL, one must believe that $100 million could have funded a lot of IT improvements (or a small handful of CEO salaries :D).

Well got a personal call from DL customer services. As well as 20K miles immediately deposited 1 month ago, got 2 x 200$ travel vouchers and they are sending a check for my out of pocket 1 way car rental + gas.

I was not expecting so I am pleased. :)
