Delta's Operational move from T5 to T2/3 at LAX:
Delta has moved to: T2 and T3 with eventual connector to TBIT (note: there is currently only airside bus service to stay securely between T2 & T3, the walking connector has not been built yet.)
Where to check bags: As of January 13, 2020, non-Sky Priority customers must check their bag(s) at the terminal their flight departs from, unless their flight departs from TBIT, in which case, they must check their bag at Terminal 2. Sky priority customers can check their bag at either terminal. See this link for more information.
Date(s) of move: May 12, 2017 - May 17, 2017
Here is a helpful chart from Delta which covers all Domestic / Int'l. transfer combos (AND TOTAL TRANSFER TIMES) between T2, T3 & TBIT.
New Bus Routes will help with connections:
- Circular Airfield Bus between TBIT, T2 and T3
- Airfield Bus between T2 and T3
Bus Map
Will there be a SkyClub: Yes, there is one in each terminal. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse will remain.
- The SkyClub in T2 opened on May 20th (Former AC Maple Leaf Lounge)
pix in post 1058
- The SkyClub in T3 opened on May 24th (Former VX Loft)

Where Will The Delta One Check In Lounge Be Located:
In T2, there is a small Delta One seating area with refreshments. An agent will escort you from the check in/lounge area through a back pathway up stairs to TSA precheck. Its a shorter walk to check-in at SkyPriority and easier if you have a carry on and don't want to drag it up a flight of stairs. 11/3/17)
Airlines joining DL in T2/3 for landside and departures:
- AeroMexico (T2)
- Virgin Atlantic (T2)
- WestJet (T3)
Landside T2 only, departures from TBIT:
- Virgin Australia
- Volaris
Landside T3 only, departures from TBIT:
- Avianca/Taca
- Copa (effective April 7)
- InterJet
Will there be secure links between T2-T3 and TBIT: Yes, the final plan is to let pax walk between all airside.

Fair enough, though if it weren't for the terminal shuffle, AA would still be split between T4, T6, and TBIT and would thus also still have their customers walking through Delta's terminal (though they don't have to go upstairs into T5, they did have to walk along that long DL-branded tunnel).
But I still maintain that Delta is spending however many billions of dollars they are on this primarily for the extra gates, not primarily to make their customers' experience better. (I don't begrudge them that choice; I think it's the right one. And I think it's very clear that this terminal swap makes things better, in the long run, for LAWA, AA, ASVX, and DL and their customers, but DL customers get significant short- and mid-term pain.)

I hope the marble stays in T5 so I can go visit it now and then...
Hopefully after a few billion dollars Delta will be able to make this not look like a Soviet Hospital... the Saarinen Terminal they tore down at JFK was in better shape than this terminal presently...

I was talking to a FA recently if she had been to the new LAX since the move. Her response was "What The hell was that!" "That looked more like a Greyhound bus Terminal than a airport terminal."

I've got my first DL flights ever through LAX (well, if we're not counting WA circa 1981), and I've got a few Qs.
(1) What is the typical bus wait and transit time between 2 and 3? (I've been tracking my flights and some days I'd stay in 3, other days it will be a 2 to 3 connection.)
(2) How is the T3 Sky Priority / TSA Pre experience in the evening? (Another trip will be an LAX departure w/luggage.)
I "can't wait" until I get to experience the T3 lounge - it will be the 4th or 5th airline lounge in the same exact location that I'll experience.

If LAWA did business this way, it would go bankrupt.
LAWA will recover the capital costs through the terminal building rate.

Haven't experienced T3 SP or TSA Pre but I did experience T2 SP and TSA Pre in the morning before and the SP was VERY LONG with about ~15-20 PAX in line and only 2-3 agents working (One kept coming and leaving) and it took me about 20 min to get through line which is the most I have ever waited including when I was a kettle in a regular line. T2 TSA Pre isn't laid out very well (I read T3 isn't either) but was very quick. (less than 5 min)

LAWA is NOT paying for the capital improvements upfront, DL is. DL is basically providing LAWA a loan to be paid back.

just exited T3 to baggage claim ... the mosaic tiles in the tunnel date back to the mid 1970s! (as a history/nostalgia buff, I think this is great)

I'm glad through all the years and various remodels, someone had the good sense to keep the mosaic tiles and keep them in good shape.

After many years of the Flyaway and off-site self-parking, I'm planning on using Lyft or Uber from LAX to Downtown.
My main concern is finding my driver in the hectic sea of traffic known as Arrivals T2. I don't think Uber/Lyft is allowed to pick up at the taxi stands, right?

ETA: The dedicated pickup points are designated by the airport. Uber and Lyft use the same ones; there aren't dedicated Uber pickup points and separate Lyft pickup points.

Rideshare services like Uber and Lyft have dedicated pickup points on the upper (departures) level:

You are looking for ride sharing pickup B, it is between T2 and T3 (serving both).
Some Lyft drivers now have a color changing lighted "mustache" in their front window and the color is shown on the app -- helps you find your ride, assuming the driver bothers to use it
One advantage of front license plates is it also makes it a bit easier to find your driver -- I get frustrated when in a rear on state
