Delta's Operational move from T5 to T2/3 at LAX:
Delta has moved to: T2 and T3 with eventual connector to TBIT (note: there is currently only airside bus service to stay securely between T2 & T3, the walking connector has not been built yet.)
Where to check bags: As of January 13, 2020, non-Sky Priority customers must check their bag(s) at the terminal their flight departs from, unless their flight departs from TBIT, in which case, they must check their bag at Terminal 2. Sky priority customers can check their bag at either terminal. See this link for more information.
Date(s) of move: May 12, 2017 - May 17, 2017
Here is a helpful chart from Delta which covers all Domestic / Int'l. transfer combos (AND TOTAL TRANSFER TIMES) between T2, T3 & TBIT.
New Bus Routes will help with connections:
- Circular Airfield Bus between TBIT, T2 and T3
- Airfield Bus between T2 and T3
Bus Map
Will there be a SkyClub: Yes, there is one in each terminal. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse will remain.
- The SkyClub in T2 opened on May 20th (Former AC Maple Leaf Lounge)
pix in post 1058
- The SkyClub in T3 opened on May 24th (Former VX Loft)
https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...d-updates.html
Where Will The Delta One Check In Lounge Be Located:
In T2, there is a small Delta One seating area with refreshments. An agent will escort you from the check in/lounge area through a back pathway up stairs to TSA precheck. Its a shorter walk to check-in at SkyPriority and easier if you have a carry on and don't want to drag it up a flight of stairs. 11/3/17)
Airlines joining DL in T2/3 for landside and departures:
- AeroMexico (T2)
- Virgin Atlantic (T2)
- WestJet (T3)
Landside T2 only, departures from TBIT:
- Virgin Australia
- Volaris
Landside T3 only, departures from TBIT:
- Avianca/Taca
- Copa (effective April 7)
- InterJet
Will there be secure links between T2-T3 and TBIT: Yes, the final plan is to let pax walk between all airside.

Back in the 85-86 time frame I used to fly World Airways to/from DC and EWR using TBIT -- it was shiny new then.

[TL;DR version -- can I check bags at Terminal 2 if flying out of Terminal 2 regardless of my destination?]
Apologies if this has been addressed already -- I went five pages and over a month of posts back and didn't see it -- but I am flying tomorrow out of Terminal 2 from LAX to CVG. However, I got an email from DL saying I need to drop my bags at Terminal 3. I have also seen other information from DL saying that fliers to about a half dozen airports -- JFK, ATL, DTW and I don't remember the rest -- have to check luggage at Terminal 2. A call to the Diamond line got an agent who didn't know the answer directly, but looked it up and said it appeared that I did have to drop checked luggage at Terminal 3 despite flying out of Terminal 2.
Is this indeed correct? If so, it is a phenomenally stupid time-wasting maneuver on DL's part. They have baggage processing capability at Terminal 2, but send some Terminal 2 pax to Terminal 3 to drop bags?!

Not sure why, but that's what all the signs are saying. The Skypriority is at the beginning of T2. The two are pretty close to each other so it's not a bad walk.
I was there for the first time this past weekend (didn't check any bags). Flew out of T2 which is better than the NWA days for sure at least cosmetically. The Virgin space is awesome, but just for flying to London unfortunately. The T2 Sky Club seems overall set, with a small selection but similar food as the T5 lounge but has self-service bar, which I prefer. Also two beers on draft which is nice. On return, I stopped at T3 SC since we landed there. Cool looking space but though there is a full service bar, it serves everything in plastic and though lots of options of package foods (evening was cottage cheese, Chobani, about 6 different packaged hummus, bean salads, pesto pasta salad) and lots of bagged food, plus full sized bottles of water. I ran into one of the previous NWA WC lounge agents and she said there were going to be big changes soon that would be cool. She also said it was the historic TWA lounge so there's some things that can't change like the black bathrooms. I'm guessing that the big open area that is currently outside the lounge will get filled in and the whole upper area will be the lounge. The T5 Delta lounge use to have a similar weird open air circular architectural feature that wasted LOTS of space. Can't wait for that $2 billion of stuff to be done, are we there yet???

That said, you can walk between T2 and T3 indoors landside. It takes about 1 minute.

Don't trust airside bus
I have a flight tonight out of terminal three but arrived several hours early, so I went to terminal two because of the sky club quality reports and planned to take the airside bus. Unfortunately, when I tried to take it at 10:30 they told me it was shut down for an hour and I'd have to go out and back through security since my flight was scheduled for an 11:30 takeoff.
I asked if there was some way to know when the bus wouldn't be running and they said no. So, don't count on the bus (at least in the evenings?), I guess.
But I do have TSA PreCheck, so I at least knew I could get through and to the gate quickly.
Oh, nope! The lines were shut down and they had only one scanner running, with a line fragmented into chaos -- they were literally rerouting it as people came in so that people behind me in the line got through more quickly. Since they were running the mixed PreCheck nonsense I was able to use the metal detector and leave on shoes, but I didn't prepare my bags by removing stuff and had to go through a bag check.
All worked out okay in the end, but don't assume that you can hang out in T2 and easily transit over to T3 for your flight.

Sorry to hear you were inconvenienced, but "Don't trust airside bus" seems rather dramatic. Evidence would seem to indicate that the bus is in service the overwhelming majority of the time. Nothing is 100% perfect. If that's what you're looking for, then your decision to fly was a mistake. I'm willing to bet that the bus has higher on time performance than any airline at LAX.

The no pattern..no problem is what the person you're quoting I believe was getting at. The OP said dont trust airside bus service, as if an one off experience is indicative of a problem. The OP didnt say here's my experience. He made a comment on the service as a whole based on one experience.
