Delta's Operational move from T5 to T2/3 at LAX:

Delta has moved to: T2 and T3 with eventual connector to TBIT (note: there is currently only airside bus service to stay securely between T2 & T3, the walking connector has not been built yet.)

Where to check bags: As of January 13, 2020, non-Sky Priority customers must check their bag(s) at the terminal their flight departs from, unless their flight departs from TBIT, in which case, they must check their bag at Terminal 2. Sky priority customers can check their bag at either terminal. See this link for more information.

Date(s) of move: May 12, 2017 - May 17, 2017

Here is a helpful chart from Delta which covers all Domestic / Int'l. transfer combos (AND TOTAL TRANSFER TIMES) between T2, T3 & TBIT.

New Bus Routes will help with connections:
- Circular Airfield Bus between TBIT, T2 and T3
- Airfield Bus between T2 and T3

Bus Map

Will there be a SkyClub: Yes, there is one in each terminal. Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse will remain.
- The SkyClub in T2 opened on May 20th (Former AC Maple Leaf Lounge)
pix in post 1058
- The SkyClub in T3 opened on May 24th (Former VX Loft)

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en...d-updates.html

Where Will The Delta One Check In Lounge Be Located:

Delta will temporarily offer dedicated check-in space in Terminal 2 (first door closest to T1) while a long-term Delta One experience is finalized.
In T2, there is a small Delta One seating area with refreshments. An agent will escort you from the check in/lounge area through a back pathway up stairs to TSA precheck. Its a shorter walk to check-in at SkyPriority and easier if you have a carry on and don't want to drag it up a flight of stairs. 11/3/17)

Airlines joining DL in T2/3 for landside and departures:
- AeroMexico (T2)
- Virgin Atlantic (T2)
- WestJet (T3)

Landside T2 only, departures from TBIT:
- Virgin Australia
- Volaris

Landside T3 only, departures from TBIT:
- Avianca/Taca
- Copa (effective April 7)
- InterJet

Will there be secure links between T2-T3 and TBIT: Yes, the final plan is to let pax walk between all airside.

I will be traveling through the new LAX Delta Experience this August... I'm already in mourning about not landing in the beautiful marble republic airlines terminal...

Looks like T3 will lose 2 of its appendages. Also seems that DL is planning to build a mini control tower (probably to monitor its own operations)

Is 65 minutes enough time to get from T7 to T3 for inexperienced travelers?
I know I'm late to the game here but at LAX I would not have even booked the original 1:45 if flying of different airlines. I'd leave at least 3 hours for that if at all possible (and in your case I'd probably just drive to SAN).

The Skyclub at terminal 3 leaves a lot to be desired.

Thanks to everyone for the advice.

I have been following this thread for a few months and things seemed very difficult at LAX--especially for someone not familiar with the airport.
Take the train, and don't even bother with L.A. driving. Seriously.

Nothing prepares you for the Gate 35/36 experience. No AC, shouted PAs, severely limited seating and the boarding line-ups cross each other. 350 people on flights separated by 10 minutes. DL, this is a hot mess.

I could not agree more. We had a 35/36 situation the other day. It's like a cattle call for zone boarding, too.

for a second or two I was wondering what a discussion of the AA (ex-US) Gate 35 nightmare at DCA was doing in the DL forum

I will probably take the United flight and drive to San Diego.

Apppears that LAX is almost as bad as LA traffic.
I drive LA to San Diego frequently, and from LAX to downtown San Diego can be as fast as 2 hours (during the overnight hours) and can be as slow as 4-5 hours during daylight.

The train from Santa Barbara to SAN in business class is a relaxing 6 hour trip, with a nice view.

Had my first LAX r/t since the move, thankfully T2 only. (I've used T3 via B6, so no need to experience that.)

Arrival: We went pretty much straight to the gate after touchdown! Can't remember the last time that happened here. Otherwise nothing exciting, T2 is fine. Baggage claim is slow as usual, 2500 miles collected.

Departure: D1 check-in appears operational, but nobody is there (except a tech performing maintenance). The queue(!) is all set up, as are 5(!) workstations (tech working on 6th(!)). No signs indicate "coming soon" or anything. Eventually a DL agent walks by and says "oh, I don't think anyone is working there". We end up at the SP line, which takes 20(!) minutes to get to the head of.

Security lines were not bad, but the Pre-√ metal detector was "randomly" sending every other person to secondary. SkyClub was OK (showers not working apparently, hot water from coffee dispensers tastes like coffee). Boarding at 25 was a mess, I couldn't even tell which was the regular line and which was SP.

Very fast taxi to be second in line for departure. Can't remember the last time that happened, either!

Arrived at 9 am today (Monday) and WAY over capacity. The sign outside promised improvements, that better include knocking down some serious walls and expanding the seats.

I will give them props, though, in catering...while it's all packaged and not standard skyclub offerings, there is a lot to chose from: yogurts and desserts, sandwiches and wraps, hummus/veggie combos, fresh fruit, muffins and danishes, instant oatmeal and soups.

i'm sure the place will be unrecognizable a year from now (for the better) in the meantime looks like they're trying to make up for space with soft product.

Helpful! Just checked my boarding pass and sure enough, heading out of gate 35. Will stay up in SkyClub (now that I finally have a seat!!) until I get that boarding notification 😊
