It figures...I got my checks today from US Bank and the 3,500 points caught my eye. But I guess its already old-news on flyertalk!

I didn't read the fine print with enough care, so I hadn't realized the 3% charge would apply. I thought it was 3,500 points for free, but I guess its just 3,500 points for cheap. I'm still going to take part:

20,000 points = (up to) $400 award ticket
3,500 points = 17.5% of 20,000 = $70

$30 or $35 for 3,500 points makes sense to me. ^

Thank you very much!

Thank you so much for explanning it so well. I definitely understand it better now.

I now hv paid 2* 49$ for the annual fee with the promise of 3500*2 =7000
Take part in the spend 250$ get 3500*2=7000
Take part in 1 balance check transfer of 1000$ = 3500
plus 22696 points in my acct = 40196 costing me
49+49+approx35=133$ i think it is well worth it.

What do u guys think?

Because some banks take exception with customers who prepay their credit card balances, and since it is costing you less than 6 cents per day to carry a balance, I would recommend that you wait until the check posts to your account, and then pay it off with an electronic funds transfer (even before you get a statement). It may cost you an extra $0.11 (assuming a 2-day lag), but it is a much better situation than potentially getting your account tagged and closed because you prepaid it and wanted to save a few pennies.

By the way, it is best if you do not have any outstanding balances or purchases on your Flex Perks card when doing this. The less moving parts, the better when dealing with banks and their credit card products.

I booked 3 tickets on an intra-Canada trip consisting of 3 segments on AC. Since AC does not charge for baggage, and 2 out of the 3 segments are on AC Jazz which only takes cash on-board - any creative suggestions on how to use up the 3x$25 allowance I get from FlexPerks?

The T&Cs say the charge must be from the airline and within the dates of travel.

Just a wild suggestion here but does AC sell gift cards? Maybe a $75 or 3x$25 gift cards that could be used on a future flight would qualify?

Hmm, I could only find an old '02 newspaper article that indicated you can buy gift certificates at an AC ticketing counter. I guess I'll check at the airport on the day of travel.

US Bank Flexperks -- ease of use, no b.s., unlike Delta

I kept my US Bank credit card as a backup to my Delta AmEx, but sort of ignored the pts that piled up and their program.

Today I was scrounging for an affordable non-stop RT ticket from DTW to SFO, and checked out Flexperks. Delta wanted 40k miles minimum for every day and every routing. US Bank gave me exact same routing that Delta offered, ON Delta's roundtrip flight, for 20,0000 miles! (they also offered some 30k flights ON Delta).

I'm impressed! There was a no b.s., fair play quality to the transaction that is sorely lacking with Delta. It made me realize how much I resent Delta as a company for the way it's running its Skypesos FF program... giving miles and SWUs (with the Bogus M fare) out like candy and then making them impossible or unaffordable to use.

I booked EWR-SLC on Delta nonstop for President's week 2011. Flexperks had far fewer available flights (at any point cost) than the Travelocity site. I was able to get two additional seats via Travelocity and applied a $400. point credit. I had to fly home on Friday, but was able to get three seats for a total of $487 cash. Not too bad.

Will New Joint Account w/One Existing Cardholder Earn Signon Bonus?

If my spouse (no Flexperks Card ever) applies with me (current Flexperks cardholder) for a new joint Flexperks Visa account will she receive a signon bonus or will the fact that I am a current cardholder nix the bonus?

Caution - fee charged

When Delta/Northwest switched to US Bank, I opted out of the new program due to the fee.

Yesterday I received a paper statement for $55.00. I called, and they reversed the charge. This is a heads up. @:-)

Be on the lookout for your bill. I never signed up for this card. It came automatically... and they added this $55 annual fee.

I doubt it, but why not call them? They were helpful with a question I had.

Statment Credit

Did US Bank change statement credit to increments of $50? If so, when? I thought it just had to be $50 minimum.

Also, will points carry over if converting to the free Flexpoints card?

New cardholder signon bonus?

Anyone know if this card has any special promotional sign-on bonii for new cardholders? Finally ditching the worthless Citibank "ExtraCash" Visa for this one. Thanks.

too late now but for others, I havent a way to get around this = no way to pay any $$ difference if you go over the tkt amount.

So if a tkt will cost $399.99 its 20k in pts, if it costs $400.80 then its 30K in pts (actually if its $400 even its 30k in pts)

But I still like this CC and you do earn EQMs & RDMs when flying on these tkts :D

Yep, go here: www.usbank.com/raf03

10,000 bonus FlexPoints after $500 spend. (Don't use it for US Mint dollar coins though.)

Use the same link above and you will get the bonus points for referring. She just has to put in your FlexPoints number if you want the referral bonus. [removed referral data-not allowed]

This is my first post, so excuse me if I make any blunders (like too long a post?). I wish I had known about FlyerTalk several years ago instead of several months ago. I'm a total beginner. I have gotten several credit card bonuses since starting to follow the blogs , though I missed out on the big ones: the 100,000 mile BA Chase card and the 50,000 mile Chase UA card. Chase has a thing against me. I got the United Chase card back at the end of December and any Chase app after that got the "too many applications" denial letter. Oh well, I moved on. I started looking in my own back yard. I've been a US Bank customer for years, so thought I'd check out their card. There's a lot to like for me. The 10,000 point sign up credit isn't great, but it takes 20,000 points to get a "up to" $400 ticket on their Travelocity powered search engine. And they do have a business card which my personal banker ran through also for another 10,000 points. No first year annual fee for either, though I can't vouch for that on the business card now. You'd have to check.

The bonus for me is that I am a Platinum customer, therefore I get a 50% bonus on the base spend. So, every $100 spend gets me 150 points which is worth "up to" $3 on an airline ticket purchase. The highest single category (gas, groceries, or airline purchases) each billing cycle earns double points. So those purchases earn 250 points per $100 spend, or "up to" $5. (The 50% bonus only applies to the base spend, not the doubled amount.) So my spending gets me "up to" a 3% return on most spending and "up to" 5% on the highest special category spending toward an airline ticket purchase.

Ok, what's a Platinum at US Bank? I called my personal banker, and she says you need checking and savings accounts OR checking and a credit card, PLUS at least $25,000 in any combination of savings, loans, or investments. Without the $25,000 there is a $20/month maintenance fee on the checking which would be a deal breaker for me. Fortunately I have a small mortgage there that meets the requirement.

Okay, maybe I've gone on far too long, though I have more to say:D
