The bad: There is no interpolation of award points required; i.e. one ticket totaled $399.20 and I booked it for 20,000 points, no fees at all. I needed another ticket on the same flights and it priced at $428.20 and cost me 30,000 points. It would be nice if I could have paid the $28.20 or there was a 25,000 point option.

i was afraid they'd try to pull that with this program :td:

my promised bonus date for the biz card was Aug 28th, almost there, we'll see if it finally shows up...

friedice Aug 26, 2009 2:30 pm

Only 2500 points have posted for my biz card so far from the actual spending and no bonus points. The transaction was done over 2 months ago. Called to find out why. Was told that the points are pending and will show up on the next statement. But since I had no spending, there was no statement for august and therefore points did not post. And the points won't post until there is a statament, and there will be no statement until I spend something. And though I wasn't intending on spending anymore on this card, it looks like I'll have to make a small purchase to trigger the statement. :td:

Pretty smart on their part. If you protested enough you could probably get them to post them manually, or you could just charge a penny or two at the gas pump. Then you could go into a U.S. Bank location and pay your CC bill in person. Give them your bill stub and a penny. That would be priceless. :D

Same happened to me. I protested, and they initiated a $5 credit just to make sure a statement will be generated next month. Apparently, posting the bonus manually (which they were able to do when it was a NWA card) not via the closing statement is too hard for them (or at least they are willing to pay $5 for not having to do so). If more people protest they might "find out" how to post it manually.

very nice it did show up, 17,500 showing as bonus on the statement. my guess since bonus was missing so was the additional 2,500 from spent...

Not bad for less than a 5 minute phone call. :D

Anyone concerned should just overpay by $.01 - $.05 and a statements will continue to be issued until they send you a check for your outstanding credit...if you don't want to call and get $5, that is.

Even less, no call is necessary, just a couple of emails. :D

My bonuses were to be 15K upon spending $500 and an additional 2.5K bonus upon spendiing $2K more. I spent $500 by June 18 and $2K more by July 21. No bonuses appeared until August 27 when all 17,500 bonus points were credited in one amount. So it took about two months and two statements to get the 15K which were supposed to be awarded after $500 in spending but only one statement and one month to get the final 2.5 bonus after I spent the next $2K additonal. I did not contact customer service at any time.

Flex Points

I am interested in gettting other opinions and ideas about this program. I have the general guidelines but there are many issues that are unclear in my estimation. I also feel like US Bank is using that famous line from the movie the Blues Brothers- namely- " I took the liberty of bulls__ing you." According to the information they distribute if you have 20k points you should be able to get a $400 ticket and if you have 30K you should be able to get a $600. Well, that's the theory- the practice is much different. For example, it is now possible to fly from ORD to FCO on UAL for less than $600. Yet to get that ticket it costs 50K flex points. I feel like I am on the receiving side of "I took the liberty of bulls___ing you." It seems that they will manipulate the points to their own advantage at their sole discretion (not a big surprise). I am interested in other FT'ers experience. Also did someone find a clear statement of the T&C?

I COMPLAINED about marginally higher fares

I complained that some of the tickets are just marginally higher than the amount needed. The rep said the way to get around this is to buy a $50 gift card and call to make the reservation (the $50 gift card is 5,000 flexpoints). This way if you have $400 for 20k limit and your fare is actually $430 apply the $50 gift card for 5k and your ticket will only cost 25K instead of 30 K. This is not perfect but it is better than the other alternative.

That is good to know. I wonder if the giftcard bought from grocery store will also work. That way I can leave the 5,000 flexpoints for the next purchase and get the 2% value, rather than 1% return for the giftcard.

My experience is that there is no 25K option.

Jimster Sep 8, 2009 1:34 pm

25k

I am not sure you read my post correctly. You are right there is no 25k option, but thats not the point. IF YOU CALL, you can redeem 20 K option and then also redeem 5K for a $50 gift card and that will give you access to a flight up to $450. It saves you 5k if the price of your flight is within $50 of the level you redeem.
