I wish I could have said the same - any service responsibility (GA / RA / TA) attached?

Will se be commuting to College Station or do they have an extension campus near yall?

The optimist in me keeps saying that the fact that my client hasn't done a d@mn thing since I was last here nearly three weeks ago is just providing me with job security and loads of miles and points. The pessimist says I'm doomed to a career of working here every two or three weeks for the rest of my life unless I quit my job and let someone else come deal with this mess. Right now the pessimist side is winning. I'm rather  right now.

Work ... darn four letter words ...... Often sucks to have it, and often sucks when you don't:(

I like free beer which I know is a non sequitur, but it is nonetheless accurate!

The odds of ALCO's blizzard in Houston on Friday are about 10 times greater than the odds of Texas A&M ever opening a campus in Austin.

Hey Mackieman, she could get Silver Elite on CO with only 7.5 AUS-IAH-CLL-IAH-AUS trips, Gold with only 15, and Platinum with 22.5 if she decided to commute between Austin and College Station by plane. :D

Every one should have a manual can opener (and especially if you live in Houston where electricity can go out for hours with a small rain storm). I have to go to the store to buy bread and milk *anyway* today. I realized the true need after having to open a milk box of strawberry milk to put over my frosted mini wheats; which wasn't as bad as I expected.

Not so fast. An Aggie with an M.B.A. in Marketing would probably think it was a super idea.

At least another consultant I haven't seen in months is here with me this week. He's in a similar situation with these guys and we've already made plans to head to lunch together in a few minutes.

It's almost like mother nature goes "Oh crap, they are on my little plan. I won't give them snow then."

I've never seen a snowstorm in Chicago that exceeded the upper end of the forecaster's call.

That's because Sony bought out Minolta and realized that they needed a real option for the pro-ish line that they are trying to run. The consumer models are still memory stick only and I hate them for it.

I might be slightly bitter because I almost lost a 16GB MemoryStick inside my laptop on day one of the StarMegaDo - bit of panic in the lobby of the hotel in Chicago - but I still think that using the same standard as everyone else makes way more sense. For similar reasons I find Panasonic's decision to go to microSD for their new cameras questionable. No real speed available on those cards. :td:

I wouldn't call the cameras you are looking at as pricey. That Canon problem was from a few years ago btw. It's hard to make a recomendation since the two cameras you are looking at are different in size. I would go with the one that is the size you want. The Sony is much larger. Sony has many cameras in the same size as the Panasonic. The true test of a camera is how good the photo looks on your computer. In the past Sony's have had a slight blue tint to them. Not really an issue as any photo program can easily remove that tint. The Panasonic's with the Leica lenses have very sharp and clear photos but in the past some colors, particularly orange and yellow have been muted.

The kitchen remodel I'm doing right now has made any previously unplanned purchase become labeled "pricey" in my book these days.

Thanks for the tips....since they do seem pretty similar, I feel like I'm leaning a little towards the Panasonic.

I'd agree with this. Size is crucial. I've left my DSLR at home lately in favor of a small point-and-shoot. I am partial to Canon cameras, by the way.

The Sony looks like it probably doesn't quite fit in a pants pocket.

Ouch! It's some stories saying that in the C-Net reviews that steered me away from Canon. I think your experience puts that one in a distant third.

That's something I never even thought of! Since the last time I bought a camera was around 1997 (and it was promptly stolen along with all my vacation pictures from the New Orleans Jazz Festival). Since my information on technology is so outdated, I'm essentially starting over.

Huh. First time I've heard of that problem and I've been a heavy Powershot user for years now. I've never had a problem with a Canon, including one that got dropped about 10 feet onto a hard floor once. But it does sound like it has been an issue for some owners.

When I read about it on C-Net, I decided to google it. The wikipedia page was updated semi-recently so I guess it's a persistent issue.

I think the one I'm looking at uses a standard SD card...I'm guessing that's faster than the microSD?
