I dont like the broken up way the terminal is layed out there. I assume this is due to border patrol concerns more than anything else. Just seems like it is hard to get around the terminal unlike when you in the states.

I was browsing outside of the Box. Do some people really think airlines can economically keep a particular aircraft on a particular route? I remember one ERJ flight I was on and I was amazed where it had been so far that day just from one BP left in the seat pocket and knowing that the flight was arriving from CLE. Started someplace in Colorado and went to IAH, CLE, GRR and I was on the GRR-EWR flight and it was heading to ROC after that.

The privacy issue is correct, if you are flying alone. That is why most people in the LH forum prefer the single F seat on 346 1-2-1.
My work around has been to select the last row in F on 744 which fills up last, so it takes a full F cabin to get a companion.

They will not pick you up at the gate unless you are HON, but if you arriving at an outside position and connecting they will send a car or usually a bus that says First Class. That bus will either take you to your connecting gate or the main terminal. They don't take you to the FCT because LH likes to use that for FRA originating passengers. So from the drop off point you go to the FCL which is just as nice as FCT.
USA flights leave from A pier so If you go to the B 22 FCL you are guaranteed a car transfer to your plane, the FCT has transfers to all flights, but you need to find your on way there (It is a short walk from arrival area) |
Anyone have experience on NatureAir in Costa Rica? I am contemplating a trip there in Jan. that requires going from SJO to Nosara.
Also thinking of using a reward tkt on CO -- would it be cutting it too close to have the NatureAir flight arriving at 11:30a & hop on the CO flight (SJO-IAH-EWR) at 12:40p? I know that one needs at least one hour for an int'l check-in! Yes-- chances are that I will be checking a bag! |

I would be with my wife, and the flight is operated with a 744, so the privacy wouldn't really be a huge issue for us.
If I am understanding this correctly, we could go to the FCL from our intra-EU flight and then get a car to the FRA-JNB flight? Does the FCL have the same amenities as the FCT (showers, sleep rooms, spa services, etc)? |

Yes just make sure your gate is not right near lounge you go to FCL A or FCL B, if not they might tell you to walk to gate. The FCT does not have a spa only the FCL B22 does, but for the most part FCL B is identical to FCT with amenities. I believe the A lounge is also similar. The B lounge opened last year so it is the newest FCL. If you do have a long enough connection just take the short walk to FCT though and you will be guaranteed the car without having to worry about the gate.
The flights I am looking at right now include about 5 hours in FRA, so we would definitely have time to check out the FCT. ^ |

SJO can be quite busy. in addition to check-in you have to pay the departure tax and go through immigration again before you leave. Also SJO is a TACA focus city with pretty good duty free and shopping. Nothing too high end but good cultural stuff.
I will make sure that I book a later flight back to the States!:-: |

Absolutely too close, since as you know Nature Air doesn't fly out of SJO but instead out of SYQ
Totally impossible to do this connection |

Oh, didn't know that about SYQ -- will have to do more research here!
if you are coming in the busy tourism season (Jan would be busy) there are additional flights out of SJO, there is one that leaves after the 12:40 one to IAH you can prepay the departure tax at selected branches of Banco de Costa Rica, so you can do that before you leave and its one line less on your way out (you need to take at least a photocopy of your passport and the 26 bucs) the ride from SYQ to SJO will be at least 20 mins also to be technically correct, we don't have immigration controls on the way out |
